Three contact points are on an inner surface of the tubular portion and achieve point contact with an outer surface of the mating terminal (30). One or more resilient contact pieces (18) resiliently contact the mating terminal (30). The contact points (15) are disposed side by side in an outer circumferential direction of the mating terminal (30) when viewed along a center axis (31) of the mating terminal (30). The contact point in the middle is shifted along the center axis (31) with respect to the contact points on both sides in the outer circumferential direction. The resilient contact pieces (18) resiliently contact the mating terminal (30) between the contact points on both sides and the contact point in the middle in the direction of the center axis (31).

More controlled normal force allows for a minimum contact normal force to be reliably maintained while reducing the insertion force required during mating.

In an embodiment, the terminals include fork shaped projections that receive one of the terminals of the replacement fuse, which also eliminates the need for additional female inserts commonly found in automobile fuse blocks. The fuse block is simple, wherein a plurality of same may be provided in an automobile to cut down on long lengths of wire running from load devices to a traditional, single centrally located fuse block.

Consequently, the side walls 21 can be positioned further inwards by a distance corresponding to the dimensions gained by locating the bending space within the side walls 21.

    Abstract: A terminal has a bottom wall, a pair of side walls, an upper wall, an elastic contact portion that is freely elastically deformable in a direction substantially vertical with respect to the bottom wall, an elastic receiving surface portion that opposes the elastic contact portion, an excessive-displacement-preventing piece, and a deformation-preventing stopper. The side walls respectively rise from both ends of the bottom wall. The upper wall extends from at least one of the side walls to over the bottom wall and opposes the bottom wall. The elastic contact portion and the excessive-displacement-preventing piece are provided on one of the bottom wall and the upper wall while the elastic receiving surface portion is provided on the other of them. The excessive-displacement-preventing piece is situated in the vicinity of the elastic contact portion and come into contact with the elastic contact portion in order to prevent excessive displacement of the elastic contact portion.

    Abstract: An improved electrical contact according to the invention has a U-shaped base having a bottom and two opposing side walls that define a tab-receiving channel. The base has an open forward end for receiving a mating tab terminal and a rearward end with a middle region therebetween. A contact spring is disposed over the bottom and has a bridge which spans the bottom between the opposing side walls in the middle region of the base. A first contact arm extends from the bridge towards the forward end and converges towards the bottom to a first contact point and then diverges to a free end thereby defining a mating tab insertion mouth. A second contact arm extends from the bridge towards the rearward end and converges towards the base to a second contact point that is disposed closer to the base than the first contact point. The bridge is continuous with one of the opposing side walls and includes a free end that is attached to the other opposing side wall.

    Abstract: An insulation displacement terminal of a high quality and high performance produced by designing the terminal in accordance with data measurement under a condition similar to an actual insulation displacement connection. An extent of insertion of insulation sheath electric cable 6, a distance between a pair of metal blocks 11 and 12 parallel to each other; and a reaction force and a contact resistance acting between cable 6 and spaced metal blocks 11, 12 is measured while inserting cable 6 into a gap between metal blocks 11 and 12 which have a tapered portion on an end of each block. After completing insertion, the extent of insertion of cable &Dgr;2, gap distance WS2, reaction force F2, and contact resistance R2 are obtained and, at the same time, the presence of broken wires (if any) in the cable is determined. These steps are repeated while changing initial gap WS between metal blocks 11 and 12.

The contact cam has a leading ramp surface extending at a relatively small acute angle relative to the insertion direction for engaging the contact portion and gradually deflecting the cantilevered contact beam. The contact cam also has a trailing locking surface extending at a relatively larger acute angle relative to the insertion direction for providing locking interference between the contact portion of the cantilevered beam and the contact cam of the male terminal to thereby removably lock the male terminal to the female terminal.

The rectangular receptacle is formed without an opening along any of its sides in order to maintain the integrity of the rectangular receptacle during numerous insertions and withdrawals of the tab. A tongue is provided within the receptacle to aid in the retention of the tab as well as insuring electrical contact between the two members. A pair of locking projections are also provided within the receptacle. The locking projections are designed to deflect during the insertion of the tab and to spring into a corresponding pair of recesses in the tab to aid in the retention of the tab within the receptacle.
