  • Patent number: 6527600
Abstract: An improved electrical contact according to the invention has a U-shaped base having a bottom and two opposing side walls that define a tab-receiving channel. The base has an open forward end for receiving a mating tab terminal and a rearward end with a middle region therebetween. A contact spring is disposed over the bottom and has a bridge which spans the bottom between the opposing side walls in the middle region of the base. A first contact arm extends from the bridge towards the forward end and converges towards the bottom to a first contact point and then diverges to a free end thereby defining a mating tab insertion mouth. A second contact arm extends from the bridge towards the rearward end and converges towards the base to a second contact point that is disposed closer to the base than the first contact point. The bridge is continuous with one of the opposing side walls and includes a free end that is attached to the other opposing side wall.

Abstract: A connector terminal which includes a terminal base portion; and a tab extending from the terminal base portion to be inserted into an opponent terminal. The tab includes a bottom face portion and an upper face portion which extends from the bottom face portion and is formed by bending so as to overlap the bottom face portion. The bottom face portion and the upper face portion collectively form a tapered portion tapering off to a point at a tip end of the tab. The bottom face portion and the upper face portion are bent so that tip ends thereof approach to each other, and define an inner space therebetween.

  • Patent number: 6439935
Abstract: The invention provides a miniaturized female terminal fitting. A female terminal fitting 10 has resilient contacts 16 within a cover 20. When a male tab 30 is inserted into the cover 20, the resilient contacts 16 bend outwards as they make contact therewith. Side walls 21 have recessed members 25 formed therein, the resilient contacts 16 being capable of entering these recessed members 25. Due to these recessed members 25, at least a portion of the bending space for the resilient contacts 16 is provided within the wall thickness of the side walls 21 of the cover 20. Consequently, the side walls 21 can be positioned further inwards by a distance corresponding to the dimensions gained by locating the bending space within the side walls 21.

Abstract: An insulation displacement terminal of a high quality and high performance produced by designing the terminal in accordance with data measurement under a condition similar to an actual insulation displacement connection. An extent of insertion of insulation sheath electric cable 6, a distance between a pair of metal blocks 11 and 12 parallel to each other; and a reaction force and a contact resistance acting between cable 6 and spaced metal blocks 11, 12 is measured while inserting cable 6 into a gap between metal blocks 11 and 12 which have a tapered portion on an end of each block. After completing insertion, the extent of insertion of cable &Dgr;2, gap distance WS2, reaction force F2, and contact resistance R2 are obtained and, at the same time, the presence of broken wires (if any) in the cable is determined. These steps are repeated while changing initial gap WS between metal blocks 11 and 12.
