The primary lance has both a stiffened region and a resiliently deformable region which is curved and extends at least partially in the plug-in direction. The stiffened region has a crimp that extends in the longitudinal direction. A supporting region is additionally provided, against whose contact surface the primary lance rests in response to a tensile load on the contact.

Protrusions 34 are formed within a cavity 24 at anterior ends of left and right wall faces thereof, in locations somewhat removed from a wall face having a lance 26 formed thereon. These protrusions 34 are capable of fitting into the cut-away portions 17. When the terminal fitting 10 is correctly inserted, the protrusions 34 fit into the cut-away portions 17, and the terminal fitting 10 is pushed into a correct position and is retained by the lance 26. When the terminal fitting 10 is inserted in an inverted manner, the anterior end of the box-shaped member 11 strikes against the protrusions 34 before the terminal fitting 10 reaches the correct position.

    Abstract: An electrical connector having a housing with rows of offset interspaced contact receiving holes. The holes are angled along each row to facilitate interspacing of the holes with holes of adjacent rows. The electrical contacts are fabricated on a carry strip at an offset angle from the carry strip for simultaneous insertion into the angled holes of one of the rows of holes. Once the contacts are inserted into a row of the holes, the carry strip is removed. Angling the holes and interspacing them with holes in adjacent rows allows the spacing between the center paths of adjacent rows to be reduced. The offset angling of the contacts on the carry strips allows for fabrication of the contacts on the carry strip at a conventional pitch, but with nonetheless can be assembled to the housing to form a final contact spacing in the housing that is smaller than the conventional final contact spacing of prior art connectors.
