Patent number: 5344348Abstract: An electrical connector has a generally closed rectangular receptacle for receiving a tab. The rectangular receptacle is formed without an opening along any of its sides in order to maintain the integrity of the rectangular receptacle during numerous insertions and withdrawals of the tab. A tongue is provided within the receptacle to aid in the retention of the tab as well as insuring electrical contact between the two members. A pair of locking projections are also provided within the receptacle. The locking projections are designed to deflect during the insertion of the tab and to spring into a corresponding pair of recesses in the tab to aid in the retention of the tab within the receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1993Date of Patent: September 6, 1994Assignee: Clements Manufacturing Company, Inc.Inventors: Lowell R. Patent number: 5269713Abstract: A reliable mechanical and electrical connection is formed between a slotted rivet and an insulated ground wire using a minimum number of manual steps. The slotted rivet head has two spaced, opposed, semi-frustoconical sections that define a slot between them. The slotted rivet is placed and properly aligned in a coil frame, and the ground wires are placed into the slot. The rivet head is then deformed by an orbital riveter to capture a portion of the insulated wire within the rivet head. A resistive welder engages the rivet head to vaporize the insulation from the captured wire portion without touching the wire. The resulting terminal assembly has a unique design in which the deformed rivet head is substantially flat.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1992Date of Patent: December 14, 1993Assignee: Briggs & Stratton Corp.Inventors: Joseph Brezovar, William J. Bergner, Michael Rudzik

Patent number: 5221874Abstract: An electric lamp having a light source disposed in a light transmissive envelope, conductive lead-throughs extending from said light source through the envelope to the exterior, and a lamp base having a pair of contact terminals connected to the lead-throughs by clamping between two clamping portions of the terminals and welding of the clamping portions at two opposing surfaces of the lead-through. The terminals have a plating with a melting point low enough such that the plating forms a brazed joint with the lead-through when a welding current from a resistance welder is passed through the clamping portions and the respective lead-through.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1992Date of Patent: June 22, 1993Assignee: North American Philips CorporationInventor: David R. Patent number: 5181867Abstract: An electrical sleeve terminal of one piece construction comprises a split sleeve for engaging a mating terminal and a crimp barrel for attaching the terminal to an electric cable. The split sleeve has six circumferentially spaced beams that have contact dimples in an alternatively staggered arrangement to biasingly engage the mating terminal in two planes. The split sleeve has flanges at the respective edges of the split that are securely fastened together. The crimp barrel is an integral extension of one flange and a separate finger that is an integral extension of the other flange is fixed in the crimp barrel to engage the conductor of the electric cable.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1992Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Andrew F. Rodondi, Kenneth P. Cope, Joseph H. Gladd, James R. Savich

Patent number: 4993959Abstract: A grounding clip forming an electrical interconnection between a ground wire and an electrically conductive panel, such as used on an electrical appliance, is disclosed. This grounding clip comprises a stamped and formed member having a U shaped section with opposed walls extending from a bight for engagement with a panel. Tines or serrations are struck inwardly from each wall to grip the panel. A wire contact section is offset from the U shaped panel. A centrally disposed strain relief arm extends from the U shaped section and any force transmitted from the wire to the clip is in the form of a straight pull extending through the centrally disposed strain relief arm.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1990Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventor: Kurt A. Patent number: 4911660Abstract: To provide for rapid manufacture and ease of assembly, the coaxial connector is formed by an inner center terminal element having a central prong and two clamping elements projecting radially therefrom, the one closest to the prong being clamped over the center conductor (16) of the connecting cable and a further one being clamped or crimped over the insulating jacket of the coaxial cable to be connected, to provide for strain relief. The outer terminal element (25) is a cup-shaped structure which is also formed with a clamping extension (24) projecting radially from the bottom of the wall of the clamping projection and crimped over the outer or sleeve conductor of the coaxial cable (15); the entire assembly is surrounded by injection molding compound which also maintains separation of the clamping extension (24) and the connecting strap (23) with respect to the clamping extensions (13, 14) of the inner conductor.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1989Date of Patent: March 27, 1990Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Reinhard Alf, Kurt Klinkwitz, Bernd Rustenbach

Patent number: 4902253Abstract: A method, installation tool, termination fittings, and test apparatus, for mass-production retrofit of aluminum wiring systems installed in buildings from 1965 to 1973, when aluminum was approved by many inspection departments. The re-termination fittings are customized for mass production on the basis of the sizes (10, 12, etc.) of the existing wire, the required movement of which with this method is minimal, an important factor in view of its frangibility. The battery-operated portable tool solidly swages the fittings to one, two, or more wires. Connection is made to duplex receptacles, the most frequently encountered device, by copper stubs which engage with both screws of the same polarity, assuring that the re-termination fittings are thus firmly fixed to the receptacle, and minimum wire movement will be required. With the re-termination fittings and the method of conductor arrangement, the electrician's work is easier and faster.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1987Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Inventor: Ezra L.
