  • Patent number: 5871373
Abstract: The electrical connector may include a housing, a contact, a secondary lock, a grommet, a backplate, a bolt, a contact removal tool, and a splash guard. The housing includes openings which receive the contacts. The grommets are positioned in cavities at the rear of the housing. The housing and backplate are designed so that the grommets are subjected to compressive forces in order to enhance the sealing characteristic of the grommets. As the contact is inserted, a locking tab engages an opening in the contact and prevents the contact from being removed from the housing. The secondary locks will increase the retention of the contact in the electrical connector. In addition, the secondary lock may include a feature which permits the partial insertion and retention of the secondary lock prior to insertion of the contact. The secondary lock also assures that the contacts have been properly inserted.

  • Patent number: 5788528
Abstract: The high-speed electrical transmission cable connector assembly of this invention includes an electrical connector having a connector backshell with an internal cavity for receiving an electrical insert to interface with an electrical interface device. An adequate amount of space is provided by the internal cavity within the backshell for routing wires of the transmission cable through a neck in an entrance side of the backshell to terminate within the insert. The backshell has a truncated side and a short lateral side for saving space and weight of the electrical connector. A grounding terminal is carried within the internal cavity of the backshell adjacent to the neck on a short neck side for grounding wires within a short distance inside the backshell. An attachment and release mechanism is provided for connecting and disconnecting the interface device to the electrical insert within the backshell.

Abstract: A biologically implantable percutaneous connector (20) for providing optionally separable interconnection between an implanted connector (21) attached to bone tissue and a removable connector (40). The connectors each include a supporting matrix of dielectric material (86, 94) within which an array of tiny conductive rods (90, 88) are sealed with ends (112, 110) of the rods exposed as contacts at mating faces (94, 92) and the other ends (102, 100) joined to conductors (33, 43) of cables (32, 42). Elastomeric anisotropic connector material (44) is located between corresponding arrays of contacts to provide for repeated reliable electrical connection and disconnection of corresponding contacts. External surfaces of the implantable body (21) of the percutaneous connector may be coated with a bioactive material promoting integration of surrounding tissue into the surfaces of the implanted percutaneous connector.

Abstract: A plastic frame 13 for electrical connectors has an open end 14. A closing plate 18 of plastic is connected to one side of the open end by means of a living hinge. A cover 24 for covering electrical wires is integrally formed on the upper side of the frame 13. During assembly, the closing plate 18 is opened and each connector 1 is inserted into the frame 13 by sliding protruding members 11 along guiding grooves 15. Then the closing plate 18 is closed and latched. The electrical wires coming out of the connector 1 are simultaneously collected together under the cover 24. For disassembly, the closing plate 18 can be unlatched and each connector pulled out one by one.

Abstract: An electrical connector assembly (100) which includes electrical contacts (10) of the insulation displacement type, an inner housing (20), an outer housing (40), and a strain relief meter (50). The assembly (100) is assembled by first securely placing the electrical contacts (10) within the inner housing (20) and then inserting the inner housing (20) into the outer housing (40) so that the electrical contacts (10) can be terminated to wires by using the insulation displacement method of wire recitation. The inner housing (20) is fully inserted into outer housing (40), and is then in a fully latched position within the outer housing (40). Strain relief member (50) is then mounted to outer housing (40) and includes an abutment flange (55) for ensuring that the inner housing (20) has been fully inserted within outer housing (40).

  • Patent number: 5271739
Abstract: A system for attaching a wire shield and a cover cap to the rear of an electrical plug. The plug is provided with four U-shaped members extending outwardly from the periphery of the plug casing, two on each of the opposite sides of the casing, near its corners. Four latching prongs extend forwardly from the shield, in alignment with the U-shaped members, each of which when advanced into a U-shaped member engages a detent shoulder on the inside of the top of the U-shaped member, to accomplish the desired latching. The cap, if used, has four forwardly-extending latching prongs each positioned to slide into a U-shaped member, just below the shield-latching prongs, until it engages a detent shoulder on the casing below the shield prong. Support structure integral with the U-shaped member preferably provides support to hold the shield latches in place even if the cap prongs are not present, as when a cap is not used.
