Patent number: 8011975Abstract: Circuits, methods, and apparatus that may provide protection from exposed wires or terminals when a power plug is damaged or destroyed. One example may provide a plug having an inner cover that shields power carrying wires or terminals when an outer shell is damaged or destroyed. The inner cover may include openings to receive conductors, where the openings may lead to terminals or wires that connect to plug prongs. The received conductors may attach directly or indirectly to an outer shell, and further to a power cord, circuitry, or other electronic components. When the outer shell is damaged or destroyed, the conductors may pull out of the openings in the inner cover, thus disconnecting from the wires or terminals. The wires or terminals may thus remain protected by the inner shell, avoiding exposure to contact by users or inadvertent conductors.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2010Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Min Chul Kim, Paul Yuan

Patent number: 7878851Abstract: Known pumping devices have a connection lid, a connection cap slipped over the connection lid, a hollow chamber formed between the connection lid and the connection cap, and electrical connections that extend through the connection cap into the hollow chamber. It is disadvantageous that when fuels containing water are being pumped, such as ethanol, corrosion can occur at the electrical connections and at the uninsulated cable segments that are exposed to fuel near the electrical connections, for instance at the electrical coils or flexible cables of the carbon brushes, and in the final analysis this leads to an interruption in the electrical contact and thus to failure of the pumping device. In the electrical device of the invention, corrosion of the electrical connections and of the electrical components adjoining them upstream and downstream is avoided entirely or at least greatly diminished. According to the invention, the electrical connections are each provided in separate chambers of the hollow chamber.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2008Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Danilo Silva, Erich Jahrstofer, Eric Plantier, Jens Gringer, Peter Weber, Celso Eduardo Fávero, Philip De Haan, Reinhard Dittmann

The flexible electrical contact may be incorporated within a battery compartment of the sound reproduction device. A corresponding method of using the sheath is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2007Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignee: Creative Technology LtdInventors: Keng Hwa Chua, Kin Wah Chan, Eng Kan Melvin Soh

Patent number: 5632639Abstract: A connector of an electrical connector assembly includes a housing defining a pair of parallel cavities extending therethrough, and a partition wall partitioning the cavities from one another. A leakage-prevention plate having a finlike configuration is interposed between the open ends of the two cavities. Thus, the path of least resistance between terminal fixtures within the respective cavities extends over both surfaces of the leakage-prevention plate. For this reason, the value of leakage current between the fixtures retained by the same connector will be extremely small, and the electrical corrosion of the terminal fixtures will be reliably suppressed. Furthermore, the leakage-prevention plate may possess a high degree of water repellency by being formed of an oil-impregnated resin in which particles of lubricating oil are dispersed within synthetic resin and/or by having the surfaces machined to a mirror finish. This prevents a continuous band of water from developing between the two terminal fixtures.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1994Date of Patent: May 27, 1997Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Hiroyuki Hayashi

Patent number: 4941834Abstract: An easily removable high voltage ground stud insulating system allows ready access to the ground stud bolt having one end directly attached to a switchgear terminal bus, with the other end adapted to receive a temporary ground connector. A two-part insulative enclosure consisting of a first thermoplastic insulative cylinder is arranged over that part of the ground stud that is adapted for connection with the ground connector while a second insulative cylinder is arranged over the other end. The insulating properties of the thermoplastic material virtually eliminate arcing between the ground stud and the surrounding atmosphere when the switchgear is energized with high voltage. The insulating system is adapted for connection with the ground stud by means of a pair of threaded washers that serve to attach the insulative cylinders on both sides of the ground connector.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1990Date of Patent: July 17, 1990Inventor: John DeLeo

Patent number: 4714438Abstract: An electric cable joint (including a termination) comprises at least one inner component heat-shrunk onto a cable or on to at least one part of a cable and at least one outer component of resilient material which is an interference fit with the inner component(s). The heat-shrink component takes up considerable variation in the size of the underlying cable (or part thereof) so that a range of cable sizes can be accommodated by a much smaller number of inner component sizes than in a purely "slip-on" range.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1986Date of Patent: December 22, 1987Assignee: BICC Public Limited CompanyInventor: Ronald D.
