Patent number: 5906496Abstract: An edge clip is disclosed for electrically connecting a conductive pad on the surface of a printed circuit board or its edge to an external connector. The edge clip is substantially U-shaped, with first and second opposing, non-parallel sides defining a space therebetween. For connection, the printed circuit board edge is fitted into the space such that the opposing sides provide spring-like deflective force against the pad and the printed circuit board, thereby providing a more reliable connection. The edge clip may include an alignment feature for facilitating alignment prior to soldering. The alignment feature may include small projections formed on the edge clip to align with, and fit into, holes on the print circuit board. Scored sections may be disposed on one edge of the clip to facilitate removal of the edge clip from a carrier during assembly.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1996Date of Patent: May 25, 1999Assignee: Thomas & Betts International, Inc.Inventors: Stephen D. Patent number: 5417596Abstract: The invention relates to a multipolar electrical connector which is to be attached to the body of a memory card. The body of the connector has a plurality of pin terminal insertion spaces into which pin terminals of a counter connector are to be respectively inserted. In each of the pin terminal insertion spaces, a first contact piece having a contact located more forward than a rocking fulcrum, and a second contact piece 6 having a contact located more rearward than a rocking fulcrum are opposed to each other, and the contact of the second contact piece is located more rearward than the contact of the first contact piece. A temporary shift between the timings with respect to pin terminals of a counter connector which have different lengths can be assured, and the force required for inserting the pin terminals is suppressed to a small degree.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1993Date of Patent: May 23, 1995Assignee: Hosiden CorporationInventor: Toshihito Kusakabe

Patent number: 5402315Abstract: An assembly module for a printed circuit board for the connection of screened conductors includes a metallic grounding plate comprising multiple modules. Each module includes a mechanism for fixedly connecting the module to a printed circuit board and at least one spring clamp conductively supported on the module. The clamp has an approximately shell-shaped conductor accommodating area for detachably enclosing at least one screened conductor. The plate further includes one rated breakage point between each two adjacent modules so that adjacent modules may be separated from one another by breaking the plate at the rated breakage point.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1993Date of Patent: March 28, 1995Assignee: Reichle+De-Massari AGInventor: Hans Reichle

Patent number: 5356316Abstract: An electrical connector assembly including a grounding-mounting track and at least one ground module fixedly connected to the track. The track is adapted to have a plurality of signal modules modularly connected to it. The ground module has a housing with at least one electrical terminal therein. The electrical terminal is fixedly electrically connected to the track.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1992Date of Patent: October 18, 1994Assignee: Burndy CorporationInventor: James D. Anderson

Patent number: 5355276Abstract: An elongated casing includes an elongated insulated seat which is disposed transverse to a longitudinal length of the casing and adjacent to one end thereof. The insulated seat has two spaced through bores that extend along a full longitudinal length to receive two conducting rods, four inlet holes that extend from a bottom of the insulated seat to communicate with the through bores, and a flat top surface. The flat top surface is provided with a T-shaped member, two inverted L-shaped members which cooperate with the T-shaped member to define two hooking units, and two recesses formed adjacent to a respective one of the hooking units. Two pairs of conducting pins are provided lengthwise in the elongated casing and which extend from the end towards another end of the casing. The conducting pins have upright insert portions that extend into the inlet holes of the insulated seat to contact the conducting rods.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1993Date of Patent: October 11, 1994Inventor: Ming-Kuang Chal

Patent number: 5346403Abstract: A grounding clip (60, FIG. 3 ) is described for mounting in a connector insert (20) to connect the outside of a coaxial contact (26) to a metal shell that surrounds the insert. The clip is formed of a strip of sheet metal with a middle (82) bent into a circle to form a band that closely surrounds and contacts the coaxial contact, the strip having opposite end portions (90, 92) that are each bent in a reverse curve and extend to the outside of the insert to engage the shell. The forward edge (162, FIG. 5 ) of the band has axiallyextending slits (164), with a sheet metal portion (166) at one side of each slit being bent about an inclined bend line (168) to project radially inwardly towards the axis (84) of the band to provide a small area of high pressure contact with the coaxial contact. The band has slots (180) that form retainer tines (182) which extend forwardly and radially inwardly, to abut a shoulder on a flange (80, FIG. 3 ) of the coaxial contact. The clip end portions (90, 92, FIG.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1993Date of Patent: September 13, 1994Assignee: ITT CorporationInventor: Peter J. Hyzin

Patent number: 5342210Abstract: A connector for connecting internal circuitry of a bar code scanner to a connector plug. One end of a contact assembly is used together with a scanner chassis to form a receptacle for receiving the plug. The other end of the contact assembly connects with the internal circuitry. The contact assembly includes a plurality of wires with a ground wire that is bent to contact a scanner casing upon insertion of the contact assembly into the scanner casing. Two or more of the wires have lateral protrusions extending toward each other to provide points at which arcing is most likely in the event of an increased surge of current. One of the wires with the protrusions is also the wire that is bent outward so that any arcing is grounded to the scanner casing.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1993Date of Patent: August 30, 1994Assignee: Intermec CorporationInventors: David R. Trine, David W. Gilpin

Patent number: 5340333Abstract: Modular adapters and similar devices are provided by this invention which minimize electrostatic interference and arcing. These devices include a pair of electrical connectors joined together with a series of electrical conductors. Each of the connectors is provided with a surrounding electromagnetic shield, and these shields are bridged together with a separate conductor element. During use, these devices can be used to releasably connect between a grounded cordset and an outlet serial port of a device or network.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1993Date of Patent: August 23, 1994Assignee: Interconnect Systems Group Inc.Inventor: Walter D.
