    Abstract: A combination circuit board and clamping device includes a circuit board having a conductor strip that conducts electrical voltage. A connection for a shielded cable with a device to clamp the cable sheath is provided on the circuit board. This device is in contact with the conductor strip carrying the electrical voltage. The clamp device for the cable sheath consists of a contact piece with a metallic base plate and clamp springs that project on one side and are separated from one another, between which the cable insulated up to the cable sheath is received. The circuit board includes pass-through apertures into which to insert these clamp springs, and the contact piece with the cable end secured between contact springs is attached to the circuit board by means of a cable binder, for whose proper positioning the circuit board includes openings.

The apparatus contains apertures for allowing cables and at least one grounding rod to be brought into the apparatus in order to reach the metal posts. The grounding rod is then connected to one of the posts, and one or more of the cables are also connected to one or more of the posts. In one embodiment, the apparatus employs a movable cover with a conducting member (e.g., a metal hinged plate) mounted onto the movable cover. In operation, the metal plate makes contact with all the posts and provides grounding to all the cables when the cover is in a closed position.

This charge must be discharged to ground at rapid speeds to prevent arcing, sparks and fire. If integrated with a feedthrough in the form of a base plate with an aperture, a flange of the baseplate may support the support insulator and a fastening plate may be used to compress the retaining insulator towards the ground strap, the fastening plate dimensioned to cover the aperture.

The grounding strip may be substantially as wide as the module that it covers. Angled tabs may be provided to fit within registration holes in the ground pad. The grounding strip may be press-fitted onto the module or soldered. The low impedance ground strip increases the connectivity of the optical module to the board and may replace grounding leads to the external housing to reduce RF emissions.
