Abstract: A swelling tape for filling a gap and a method of filling a gap are provided. The swelling tape can be applied within the gap having a fluid to realize a 3D shape thereby filling the gap, and be used to fix a subject forming the gap as necessary.

Abstract: An inorganic binder composition has a first constituent which is a poly(sialate) or a poly(sialate-siloxo) admixed with a second constituent which has one or more of: fly ash F, fly ash C, fumed silica, Al2O3, pozzolan, ground slag, nepheline syenite, anhydrous aluminum silicate, hydrous aluminum silicate, hydrous sodium hydroxide, silicic acid, potassium salt, and sodium salt. The binder is used to recycle and reuse revert materials from metal smelting operations.
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for preparing organic waste, such as coffee grounds (12), so as to eliminate it by combustion. Said method consists in mixing the waste (12) with a silicic acid additive (14), the proportion of additive ranging between 3 and 5% to constitute a fuel.
Abstract: A mixture includes paraffin wax and a thickening agent, the thickening agent being pseudoplastic above the melting point of the paraffin wax. The paraffin wax ideally makes up 50-99% w of the mixture, and the thickening agent 1-40% w of the mixture. The thickening agent includes diatomaceous earth. The mixture may include abrasive material, fibrous particles, and talc to affect its texture when applied to an article. Also disclosed is a synthetic log of combustible material including wood waste and a hydrocarbon (such as paraffin wax), and a coating applied in a state of low viscosity so as to partially or wholly cover the surface of the log, which then sets. This coating is ideally the mixture defined above. The log may be wrapped in a sleeve which features a transparent window, so the coating can be viewed, especially if the coating is only applied to part of the log's surface.
Abstract: The present invention provides molded fireplace articles comprising a plurality of non-white inorganic fibers that are substantially uniformly coated with a colored metal oxide. The present invention further provides a method of manufacturing molded fireplace articles comprising: providing a plurality of non-white inorganic fibers; mixing the fibers with a binder and a liquid to form a slurry; pouring the slurry into a mold having a desired shape; and forming the slurry into a shaped article. A method of preparing non-white inorganic fibers is also provided, the method comprising the steps of: providing a colorant solution formed by dispersing or dissolving a metal compound into a carrier liquid, providing an inorganic fiber, applying the colorant solution to the inorganic fiber to form a colorant coated fiber, and heating the colorant coated fiber to a temperature sufficient to decompose the metal compound to a non-white metal oxide that is substantially uniformly coated on said fibers.
Abstract: The present invention provides a composition and method for making combustible briquettes from industrial waste, particularly from industrial fines, which are useful in the manufacture of steel. The fines are mixed with a binder comprising an aqueous solution of sodium silicate, formed into briquettes and dried prior to use.
Abstract: A waste-derived fuel is prepared to have a particular chemical composition, including ash content, ash composition and fuel value, and physical properties as required by a particular fuel user or burning process. The fuel is prepared by collecting different waste materials, chemically analyzing each waste material, and then blending and mixing together several different waste materials in appropriate proportions to provide the desired chemical composition and fuel value. The fuel is prepared to have a homogenous, uniform, and constant composition over time. The fuel is suited for use by itself or mixed with conventional fuels to be burned as a primary fuel in the main burner of a cement kiln and pre-calciner. In that case, the fuel is preferably formulated to provide an ash composition that approximates the composition of normal cement raw material mix. The fuel can provide increased amounts of particular elements or compounds as required by the fuel user.
Abstract: Briquettes capable of sustained emission of aromatic volatiles during cooking of food over a heated bed of briquettes comprise a bonded combustible or non-combustible matrix containing within the matrix at least one pellet of combustible aromatic material. The briquettes are preferably conventional charcoal briquettes containing a plurality of pellets of compressed bonded wood. The wood is preferably a flavoring wood such as hickory. The invention also encompasses a method of imparting flavor to food comprising cooking food over a heated bed of the briquettes of the invention.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of decreasing air pollution from burning a combustible carbonaceous material, wherein the combustible carbonaceous material comprises an admixture of a non-combustible binder material, such as clay, and a combustible carbonaceous substance in the form of chunks of briquettes, in a natural draft furnace. The method comprises burning the chunks of briquettes, wherein said briquettes have been prepared by mixing about 60 to about 90 parts combustible carbonaceous particles, such as coal, with 40 to about 10 parts non-combustible binder material, such as clay, in a sufficient amount of water to obtain a moldable mixture, molding the mixture into a briquette form, allowing the briquette form to dry, preferably at a temperature above about room temperature from about 2 to about 6 days to form dried briquettes, preferably about 2 to about 25 cm on a side.

Abstract: A combustible carbonaceous briquette and method of making the briquette wherein a finely divided carbonaceous material is formed into a desired briquette shape under high pressure whereby carbonaceous particles are bound together by a pre-cooked mixture of an organic binder and a water-swellable clay. The combustible carbonaceous material is present in the briquette composition in an amount of about 85% to about 96% by weight; the organic binder is present in an amount of about 2% to about 8% by weight; and the water-swellable clay is present in an amount of about 1% to about 5% by weight. The weight ratio of organic binder to water-swellable clay, dry weight basis, is in the range of from about 1.5 to about 3.0 to 1.
Abstract: A water-resistant fuel agglomerate based on finely divided fuel material, is characterized by the fact that it comprises, distributed within its constituent mass, effective proportions respectively of at least one organic binder selected from the group comprising starches, starch derivatives, flours, proteins, celluloses, hemicelluloses as well as the mixture of these substances, and of at least one organosilicic waterproofing or water-repelling agent.
