Abstract: A fabric, which can be used more especially as a pierce-proof fabric but also as a decorative fabric, includes a plurality of interconnected scales, which have bores to connect them to one another, and into which connecting members extend. The connecting members are directly formed on the scales. Because the scales overlap one another in the manner of roof tiles (form an imbrication) and because, in order to make a flat connection, the scale itself in the fabric overlaps at least two adjacent scales and is overlapped by at least two additional adjacent scales, the fabric can also meet increased safety requirements in an advantageous manner.

Abstract: A composite is disclosed which is resistant to knife and ice pick stab penetration and is made from a plurality of layers of woven polybenzoxazole or polybenzothiazole fibers, a plurality of ballistic layers, and a plurality of tightly-woven penetration resistant layers.
Abstract: A composite is disclosed which is resistant to knife stab penetration and is made from at least one layer of woven polybenzoxazole or polybenzothiazole fibers and at least one layer of a fiber network of another polymer.
Abstract: A composite woven fabric made up of at least two plies of individual woven fabrics bonded together by a layer of flexible bonding resin disposed on juxtaposed surfaces of the individual woven fabrics. The bonding agent covers at least about 75%, preferably 100%, of the juxtaposed individual fabric surfaces and does not exude through the interstices of the woven fabric. The thus constituted fabric material is very good for use in making an anti-ballistic composite fabric. An anti-ballistic composite fabric is made up of at least one of these bonded woven fabrics sub-composites, preferably in combination with conventional non-woven fabric layers. This composite product has an exceptionally low areal density but still can withstand the impact of a 44 magnum projectile. It also offers excellent protection against knife and ice pick threats.

Abstract: An elastic protective material is disclosed. The protective material comprises a three-dimensional fully fashioned knit structure made by single jersey knitting at a machine gauge of at least 10 needles per inch. This knit layer is completely surrounded on both surfaces by an antiseptic and sterilizable elastomer or polymer. A method of making the elastic protective material is also disclosed.
Abstract: Protective clothing comprising one protective layer or a plurality of protective layers superimposed on and optionally joined to one another may contain textile flat structures made from antiballistically acting fibers, wherein the protective layers contain contoured shapes for fitting to body shapes imparted by a molding process that is conducted without the concurrent use of a resin. The protective clothing may also contain one or more cover layers. Bulges are formed in the protective layer and optionally the cover layers by the molding process in order to produce a better fit, particularly in the bust region. Protective clothing manufactured in this way offers an agreeable degree of comfort and is particularly intended for female police, military and other security personnel.

Abstract: A fabric (144) for use as a stab-resistant insert in protective textiles comprises a plurality of steel cords (100). Each of the steel cords (100) comprises a longitudinal axis (102) and two or more steel filaments (104). Each of the steel filaments (104) forme a twisting angle .alpha. with the longitudinal axis (102) of the steel cord (100). The steel cords (100) have two or more of such twisting angles which are substantially different from each other so that any penetrating stab or knife is stopped.

Abstract: A system for the softening or other treatment of fabric articles is provided which comprises a vented bag comprising a fastening system and flexible sheet releasably impregnated with an effective amount of a liquid fabric-treatment composition.
Abstract: A ballistic composite laminate exemplified by a panel incorporating resin impregnated, heat and pressure bonded, fabric layers of high tensile strength "S" glass roving filaments on its backside extending through approximately one-half its thickness with the remainder of its thickness on the face side of the laminate formed of appreciably lower cost fabric layers of "E" glass filaments, which meet acceptance according to military ballistic acceptance tests substantially matching higher cost panels reinforced with fabrics of 100% "S" glass filaments.
Abstract: Crosslinkable poly(arylene sulfide) oligomers are prepared by reaction of a dihaloaromatic compound, a sulfur compound that is reactive with halo organic compounds to form thioethers, and an end cap monomer corresponding to the formula:A.sub.i --Ar--Xwhere A is an alpha, beta-unsaturated hydrocarbon moiety that is subject to step growth reaction by chemical activation, or by thermal activation at temperatures substantially in excess of the temperature of formation of the oligomer. Both linear and multidimensional oligomers are disclosed.
Abstract: The physical properties of high performance composites can be tailored by using blends to make the composites. The resulting composites are relatively easy to make and have long-term, high performance capabilities even in harsh service conditions. The blends of the present invention include at least one oligomer having an aromatic, aliphatic, or mixed aromatic and aliphatic backbone from one chemical family and an unsaturated hydrocarbon end cap and at least one polymer from a different chemical family. Upon curing, the oligomer in the blend addition polymerize to form composites possessing advanced properties with respect to those exhibited by the pure oligomer or the pure polymer. Coreactive oligomer blends can be used instead of a pure oligomer to form composites that include addition polymers, block copolymers, and the compatible polymer, thereby further achieving a tailoring of properties in the cured composite. The blends can be prepregged and cured to form composites.
