Abstract: We report a method of preparation of highly elastic graphene oxide films, and their transformation into graphene oxide fibers and electrically conductive graphene fibers by spinning. Methods typically include: 1) oxidation of graphite to graphene oxide, 2) preparation of graphene oxide slurry with high solid contents and residues of sulfuric acid impurities. 3) preparation of large area films by bar-coating or dropcasting the graphene oxide dispersion and drying at low temperature. 4) spinning the graphene oxide film into a fiber, and 5) thermal or chemical reduction of the graphene oxide fiber into an electrically conductive graphene fiber. The resulting films and fiber have excellent mechanical properties, improved morphology as compared with current graphene oxide fibers, high electrical conductivity upon thermal reduction, and improved field emission properties.

Abstract: Substrates such as tissue and nonwovens have an additive composition applied topically thereto. The additive composition, for instance, comprises a frothed aqueous dispersion or solution which is topically applied to the web through a creping process after the web has been formed. The additive composition may be applied in-line to the web as a creping adhesive during a creping operation. In the alternative, the additive composition may be added in an off-line converting process that crepes a dry pre-formed substrate material. The additive composition may improve bulk and softness of the tissue.

  • Publication number: 20110306255
Abstract: The invention relates to a composition including an acid-stable inorganic binder and fibres. The composition includes at least one inorganic binder and fibres, wherein the inorganic binder comprises water glass, the fraction of the composition which is attributable to water glass preferably being in the range from 2% to 99% by weight or 6% to 94% by weight or 11% to 89% by weight or 21% to 79% by weight. The fibre material is present as a weave and/or knit and/or scrim and/or net and/or brous nonwoven web and/or as hollow fibres. Owing to its high strength coupled with low weight, this material of construction is very useful for fabricating ready-made components for structural and civil engineering. In addition, it is also very easy to produce structural components and engineered structures on site. It is possible to realize very light components, to achieve very delicate geometries and, owing to the favourable strength-to-weight ratio, to build unusually high structures.

  • Patent number: 8058193
Abstract: In one aspect, the present invention is a thin-layer lignocellulose composite having increased resistance to moisture. The thin-layer lignocellulosic composite includes a mixture of no more than about 95% by weight of a lignocellulosic fiber and at least about 5% by weight of an organic isocyanate resin. The mixture further includes short fibers and a release agent that does not interfere with subsequent processing of the thin-layer lignocellulosic composite. The mixture is pressed between two dies at an elevated temperature and pressure and for a sufficient time to form a thin-layer composite of predetermined thickness, and to allow the isocyanate resin to interact with the lignocellulosic fiber and short fibers such that the resultant thin-layer composite has a predetermined resistance to moisture.
