    Abstract: A conveyor belt reinforcing fabric weave is disclosed, having a plurality of center tension warps crimped about a plurality of middle wefts. Upper and lower wefts lie above and below the middle wefts. The upper and lower wefts are in opposition to each other and in non-opposition with the center wefts. Binder warps are interlaced above and below the central tension warps in alternating sequence, with at least one of the binder warps interlacing upper and lower wefts other than those interlaced by an adjacent binder warp. Interlacing of the middle wefts by the central tension warps locks the wefts in place, providing enhanced resistance to faster pullout. The lack of straight tension warps provides a highly flexible fabric that can be used in multi-ply applications. A conveyor belt incorporating one or more plies of the inventive fabric is disclosed, as is a method for manufacturing the belt.

    Abstract: A textile finished with a biocidally active component is provided. The textile is characterized in that the biocidally active component is contained in the textile and comprises 2-n-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and also, optionally, one or more other biocides and the biocidally active component is enclosed in microparticles composed of an aminoplast resin. The enclosure of the biocidally active component in the microparticles causes the biocidally active component to stay on the textile during the drying and curing involved in the finishing process. In addition, in practical use, the biocidally active component is only released slowly and is not washed off by exposure of the textile to rain or water. This stops a large part of the biocidally active component escaping during the finishing of the textile or being washed off the tenting, awnings, filters, tarpaulins, shower curtains and the like after just a few (rain) showers.

    Abstract: Disclosed are a functional high-strength adhesive sheet using a nonwoven fabric, which is widely applied, a system and a method for manufacturing the adhesive sheet, and a functional high-strength steel plate attached with the adhesive sheet. The functional high-strength adhesive sheet comprises a polyethylene layer, a nonwoven fabric in which the polyethylene is pressed to its one surface, and a functional polyethylene layer pressed to the other surface of the nonwoven fabric.

    Abstract: A composite carbon fiber material is formed of one or more layers of carbon fiber material in which the carbon fibers are aligned all in the same direction and a mat of nonwoven, woven, or off-axis unidirectional carbon fibers are laminated together. Layers may be used individually or as a hybrid. The layers can be preimpregnated or impregnated during processing using thermoplastic or thermosetting resins. A layer of thermoplastic resin is applied either over the surface or within the composite structure, and the resin permeates the material so as to provide a more stable mechanical structure once the resin is processed. The material combines good mechanical strength with improved electrical current carrying properties when compared with the aligned carbon fiber layer alone. The layering sequence, layer type, and resin type can be specified to tailor electrical properties, mechanical properties, durability, and wear resistance.

    Abstract: The present invention is a method for making a roll cover and a roll cover, wherein at least one material is applied to the surface of the roll or a base substrate. In a first embodiment, a single material is applied as a flowable phase. A uniform coating of the material is applied to the roll, and upon setting of the material, such as by cooling, curing, or other means, a smooth and permanent roll cover is formed upon the surface of the roll. In another embodiment, at least two materials are applied in flowable phases to the surface of the roll. The first material may be a sacrificial, removable first material, applied to the surface of the roll cover in a preselected pattern. After the sacrificial material has been applied, a second material, such as a functional resin, is applied to the surface of the roll cover with the sacrificial material removed after the second material has set. In another embodiment, the use of sacrificial material is avoided and the material is applied in a predetermined pattern.

    Abstract: Plies of continuous fiber material are oriented and cut to the intended shape of a structural component, such as the vertical tail of an aircraft. Two skins or laminates are created by laying the cut-to-shape plies into a matched mold, with over-woven or over-braided mandrels or similar tooling details placed between the skins. The mold is closed and a thermosetting resin is injected into the mold to fully impregnate any fibers that were unimpregnated at the time of mold closure and to fully fill all void areas inside the mold. The mold is held closed with pressure, such as by a press, and heated to cure the resin while the resin in the mold is subjected to a hydrostatic pressure sufficient to constrain growth of voids. The contiguous faces of the impregnated braid or weave covering the mandrels are united by the resin, forming vertical or angular laminate between the inner faces of the skins.
