Including Distinct Means For Enabling Selection Of Pitch Patents (Class 446/208)
  • Patent number: 5975978
Abstract: A deer grunt caller capable of producing sounds only at predetermined discrete pitches. The caller includes a reed supported in a tube through which air is blown. The air causes the reed to vibrate and the caller to emit a sound of a given pitch. A plurality of push-buttons extend radially through the sidewall of the tube and are capable of engaging the reed upon finger actuation to produce a sound at a predetermined pitch, such as that corresponding to a fawn, a doe or a buck. The use of finger actuated push buttons permits sounds of a given discrete pitch to be readily reproduced and prevents sounds at unwanted pitches from being emitted by the caller.

  • Patent number: 5885126
Abstract: An improved call for use in calling waterfowl or game in which the call has a unique set of interchangeable chokes so that the volume of the call can be easily varied by the user. The precisely designed chokes provide the user the ability of changing the volume by replacing the choke so as to better fit the particular conditions of the environment without changing the reed size or thickness. The call also contains an opening in the side of the barrel which opening is normally closed by a plug which can be removed to allow the user to simulate different calls.

  • Patent number: 5785574
Abstract: A device for adjusting the pitch and quality of the sound produced by a diaphragm-type game call. Two embodiments are presented, which may be built by the manufacturer into a conventional call or clipped onto a pre-existing call by the hunter. The invention comprises a tuning bar which extends across the width of the diaphragm. The tuning bar may be slid along the length of the diaphragm, from the vibrating edge inward toward the fixed supported end. In the preferred embodiment, the tuning bar has a tab or "step" which extends downward toward the diaphragm, acting as a fret or stop and modifying the air flow over the diaphragm, allowing greater variations in sound.

  • Patent number: 5643039
Abstract: A deer grunt or similar game call has a tubular mouthpiece and a sound tube. The interior of the mouthpiece contains a reed holder assembly that defines an airway between the mouthpiece and sound tube and generates sound when air passes through it. The assembly includes an elongated reed holder that extends proximally-distally in the mouthpiece and an flat reed disposed on one radial-facing surface of the reed holder. The reed is affixed to the holder at its distal end, and its proximal end is free. The grunt or game call is provided with one or more tuning clips that can be removably installed into the mouthpiece to limit the effective vibrating length of the reed and alter the sound of the call or grunt. Each tuning clip can include a U-shaped clip portion that fits snugly over the rim of the mouthpiece, a shank or shaft that extends a predetermined distance axially into the mouthpiece, and a transverse, T-shaped reed stop at the distal end.

  • Patent number: 5613891
Abstract: An animal caller including a pouch-like housing having top and bottom walls and an opening for forming a pouch pocket, and attachment means on the bottom wall for securing the pouch-like housing to a surface. The animal caller also includes a bellows assembly for producing a strong current of air disposed within the pouch pocket, and a reed assembly for producing a specific animal sound being detachably connected to the bellows assembly. The reed assembly has detachable and interchangeable reed housings for different animal calls, and the reed assembly has at least two flexible and interlocking calling tubes movable relative to each other to vary the pitch and/or tone of the animal call and to direct the animal call to a given direction.

  • Patent number: 5577946
Abstract: A grunt tube includes a tubular member, a reed and an elastic skin. The tubular member includes a mouthpiece end that allows air to enter, an outlet end that emits sounds and an opening in a wall of the tubular member between the mouthpiece end and the inlet end. The reed vibrates in response to passing air and is disposed within the tubular member adjacent the mouthpiece end and the opening. The elastic skin extends over the wall of the tubular member to at least partially cover the opening. A user can modify sounds emanating from the outlet end produced by air passing through the mouthpiece end and over the reed by selectively applying pressure to the elastic skin. As a result, a varied array of sounds can be produced with the grunt tube.

  • Patent number: 5222903
Abstract: A device for a human to produce animal calls comprises: a main body with first and second ends and an intermediate portion therebetween and a longitudinal air passage therethrough from the first to the second end; a reed with a restrained end and an unrestrained end, positioned atop a portion of the air passage so that the user's breath being expelled through the air passage causes the unrestrained end to vibrate; a plate for retaining the restrained end of the reed against the main body along the intermediate portion thereof; and a generally elliptical solid piece of resilient foamed polymeric material for gripping the device between the teeth and/or lips of the human user. The device may further comprise an "O" ring frictionally engaged around the reed and the main body and compressing the reed against the main body along the respective intermediate portions of the reed and the main body.

  • Patent number: 5174577
Abstract: A swing training device which provides both audible and tactile feedback to an individual. In one embodiment, the present invention includes a bow-shaped support structure having two tensioned laterally-displaced vibratable members positioned between the end portions of the structure. When the present invention is fixedly attached to a sports implement, such as by a clip partially encircling the shaft of a golf club, and is swung by the individual, the passage of the vibratable members through the air displaces the vibratable members which initiates their vibration. This vibration provides an audible response and a tactile response to the individual, the magnitude of which is dependent upon the velocity with which the sports implement is swung.

  • Patent number: 4950201
Abstract: This invention is a game call for attracting birds and animals. It involves a tube, open at both ends, and a vibratory reed disposed therein. The call is adapted to be held in the hand of the user by the larger of two major parts, the barrel. The second major part, a voice-unit, secures a vibratory reed. Either the barrel or voice-unit may serve as the mouthpiece. • Patent number: 4764145
Abstract: A wildlife call including a hollow tube having an open sound-escape end and an opposite open mouthpiece includes a resonating membrane associated with the mouthpiece which is arranged in a planar condition and oriented at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the mouthpiece. For support of the membrane in such an arrangement, the mouthpiece includes a head portion which protrudes axially of the tube and opposite the sound-escape end and which defines a continuous edge that bounds a substantial portion of the opening of the mouthpiece when the mouthpiece is viewed axially and theretoward. The mouthpiece further includes an end wall covering a substantial portion of the mouthpiece opening not covered by the continuous edge, arranged generally within a radial plane of the tube, and defining a substantially free edge extending across the mouthpiece. The resonating membrane is thus arranged angularly to the plane of the end wall.

A pair of notches are positioned at each end of one of the members and an endless rubber band is positioned across the outer back side of the member with notches and through the notches thereby forming two reed elements, one at each end of the device. The reed elements are positioned at the entrance into the cavity between the two members at each end thereof.

  • Patent number: 4737130
Abstract: The short mouthpiece of the goose call is provided with a bushing which telescopically mounts in the mouthpiece bore. A relatively long belled tube mounts to the bushing in order to produce a sound-projecting megaphone effect for the instrument. Further, the reed is truncated in comparison with the reed of a conventional reed assembly, to an extent such that the free end of the reed is substantially coincident with the end edge of the sound trough. Percussive sound, as a result of blowing on the mouthpiece to cause the reed to vibrate, consequently is produced primarily by repetitive flapping of the reed aganist the side margins of the mouth of the sound trough, a crisper herr-onk break is more easily achieved, and the tendency of moisture or ice to cause the free end portion of the reed to non-vibratingly adhere to the mouth surface of the sound trough is reduced.
