  • Patent number: 10183226
Abstract: A spinning top toy including a body and a separate shaft portion. The body has a first hook and the shaft portion has a second hook. The body and the shaft portion are switchable between couplable and decouplable states depending on a relative rotational position. The first hook and the second hook are vertically aligned in the couplable state, and are vertically misaligned in the decouplable state. An urging unit brings an upper face of the first hook and a bottom face of the second hook into contact by an urging force of a spring in the couplable state. The body and the shaft portion enter the couplable state by turning and pushing. The body and the shaft portion engage each other by bringing the upper face of the first hook into contact with the bottom face of the second hook by the urging force of the spring.

  • Patent number: 6443801
Abstract: A spinning top including a hollow body having a vertical spin axis and including an upper and a lower body portion rigidly connected together directly or preferably interconnected by a weighted annular ring for increased rotational inertia. A replaceable pointed tip is connected to the lower end of the lower body portion for free rotation only with respect to the body, the pointed tip engaging against a support surface when the body is in spinning motion. A second bearing-mounted pointed tip may be releasably connected concentric with the spin axis and upwardly extending from an upper end of the upper body portion whereby the spinning top may be lifted from one support surface and placed onto another support surface without interrupting spinning motion of the top.

  • Patent number: 6089946
Abstract: A spinning top includes a driving device and a series of tops. The driving device includes a motor driving a clutch, and each top has a seat for temporary engagement with the clutch which drives the top to spin. The driving device comprises a control switch which links the power to the motor and the linking mechanisms to the clutch. By adjusting the control switch, the motor is started, which drives the clutch to spin. Pressing the control switch further disengages the top from the clutch so that the top will spin itself. Further, the top portion of the top is shaped with a concave portion for receiving another top stacked thereon, by engaging the concave portion with the seat of another top.

  • Patent number: 5122089
Abstract: A spin-top which includes a body of substantially rotational symmetry around a longitudinal axis, the body having a curved outer surface for converting force having a vertical component applied thereto into a rotational force, the top being provided with at least one pointed end face along the axis and the top being configured to have a first rest position with the axis substantially parallel with the ground, a second active position with the axis substantially perpendicular to the ground and an intermediate active position of rotation around the axis while the axis is still substantially parallel with the ground, the configuration of the top being such that upon application of a spin imparting force to the outer wall of the body while in the first rest position, the body is imparted with a forward motion combined with a backward spin to achieve the intermediate active position while also being imparted with a simultaneous turning motion around some point along its axis, a gyroscopic reaction causing the top

  • Patent number: 5020798
Abstract: A game kit organization includes a plurality of spinning tops, the spinning top includes a generally conical lower surface, a medial annular surface, and a convex upper surface for reception of a string to be wound about the convex upper surface to effect rotation of each top. The tops are sequentially spun by opponents to effect impact between opposing spinning tops. A modification of the invention includes projections selectively securable to the annular band to provide variations of impact between opposing tops, as well as providing for selectively securable projections mounted within the annular band to effect relative states of imbalance and impart desired wobble to opposing tops to vary a pathway of opposing tops to add a level of chance in effecting impact as noted above.

  • Patent number: 4867728
Abstract: A toy top launcher simulating a space shuttle is disclosed for launching a rotating top having a circular enlarged end and a gear adjacent the opposite end onto a flat surface. The top launcher has a chamber for supporting the enlarged ends of a plurality of tops is a row. A discharge station is provided for discharging the leading top from the chamber to a starting launching position on a launch pad. The launch pad has a pair of spaced elongated edges defining an open-ended elongated slot having a gear track along one edge thereof. A launch slider is mounted for reciprocal movement on the launch pad, and in one direction of movement engages the top and urges the gear thereof into meshing engagement with the gear rack. Further movement of the slider imparts rotation and forward motion to the top, expelling the top from the open-end of the slot.

  • Patent number: 4828258
Abstract: A spinning top game toy includes a disk-shaped playing board with three groups of upstanding pedestals mounted to the periphery of the board and a central pedestal extending upwardly from the board adjacent the center portion thereof. The upper surface of each pedestal is adapted to retain a spinning top thereon. A plurality of spinable tops are adapted to spin on the upper surfaces of the peripheral pedestals and a bonus top is adapted to spin on the upper surface of the central pedestal. The bonus top has a central spindle that has an upper surface adapted to retain a spinning top. The game is played by two or more players who, in turn, each spin the bonus top on the central pedestal and then move the spinable tops among the peripheral pedestals in a preselected sequence. Points are accumulated for successful moves of the tops until one of the tops or the bonus top stops spinning.
