  • Patent number: 10369006
Abstract: A unitary intervertebral device, having no moving components is provided for non-fusion articulation and fusion applications. The interbody articulating device allows for limited flexion and rotation between the implant and an adjacent vertebra, helping to preserve or restore near-normal motion between adjacent vertebrae. Rotational motion is achieved through one or more protrusions incorporated into the spinal interbody device. In one articulating form, a first protrusion extends perpendicularly from one bearing surface of the interbody device to form a rotational protrusion, while at least a second protrusion extends from the opposite bearing surface of the interbody device to form a non-rotational protrusion. In another form, a single protrusion extends axially from one bearing surface of the interbody device to form a spike or anchoring, rotating protrusion, while the opposite bearing surface may be slightly rounded and/or comprising a bone-ingrowth promoting surface.

  • Patent number: 6364734
Abstract: A toy top system that uses uniquely configured tops. The system contains a plurality of toy tops that can be stacked on top of one another while spinning. Each of the tops has a value for rotational inertia associated with it. At least some of the tops are configured to have a value for rotational inertia that varies as a function of the rotational speed of the top. The tops with a variable rotational inertia are capable of storing and providing rotational energy while maintaining a near constant rate of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5545068
Abstract: A propeller launching toy includes a pistol-shaped housing having a movable trigger and a rotatable winding collar. A main shaft is rotatably supported within the housing and is operatively coupled to the winding collar. A main spring is coupled to the main shaft to provide stored energy for rotating the main shaft. A propeller toy having a plurality of propeller blades is releasibly secured to the forward end of the main shaft. A ratchet mechanism is coupled to the winding mechanism to provide single direction motion of the winding collar and main shaft. The trigger is coupled to a pivotable lever which responds to trigger movement to release the engagement of the main shaft and allow rapid spinning of the main shaft which in turn spins the propeller toy. As the propeller toy is rapidly spun, the propeller blades provide aerodynamic lift launching the propeller toy.

  • Patent number: 5129655
Abstract: A path game including a generally serpentine path rising from a start to a higher finish. Removably seated adjacent the finish is a top together with a winding and release mechanism for the top. Card play provides for forward and backward movement of tokens, exchange of tokens with opposing players and release of the spinning top. When the mechanism is removed, the top may be readily mounted on the winding and release mechanism for winding. The wound top, together with the winding and release mechanism is then reseated for release upon play of a particular type of card. Upwardly projecting ridges between segment of the path generally provide a guide for downward movement of the released spinning top along the path. Gaps in the ridges provide for movement of the top from one segment of the path to a nonconsecutive segment while skipping intervening consecutive segment and also permit the top to leave the path entirely.

  • Patent number: 4932918
Abstract: A top spinning toy has a spring wound mechanical motor which rotates a socket having a spiral groove formed therein. A top has a spiral projection formed on an outer surface thereof and is screwed into the socket. The socket is rotated in the same direction as the top-inserting direction until a coil spring within the spring wound mechanical motor is wound tight. A release mechanism causes the spring tension to release and rotate the socket in a direction opposite the winding direction. The top leaves the socket automatically at a high speed and is capable of spinning for a long time.

  • Patent number: 4467554
Abstract: This invention is a toy in which two principal assemblies of parts are made to counter-rotate by a concentric internal coil spring, previously wound up by hand, whose tension is maintained by a one-way clutch and is released when the weight of the toy, when it is placed on a flat surface, disengages the clutch. A carrying handle, in the form of a miniature fence of posts and railings, is attached to the upper assembly. A mechanism is incorporated to free the inner end of the spring from its arbor when the energy of the spring is spent, so that the assemblies may continue to counter-rotate by inertia without damage to the spring. The toy is equipped with a lighting system of flashing light-bulbs around the perimeter and in a central transparent cupola, supplied with energy from flashlight-type electrical batteries in a central tubular shaft through a switch on the upper assembly.
