Patent number: 4976646Abstract: In accordance with this invention there is provided a toy which engages a member such as a finger or a liquid medicine dispenser. The member acts as a lower jaw for the toy. The toy includes a head with an upper jaw and a body. The body is contiguous to the head and includes a trunk with front and rear limbs extended therefrom. Together, the upper jaw, the body, the front limbs and the rear limbs define a longitudinal passageway which passes through the toy. The toy accommodates the member in this passageway. The front limbs extending down from the front section of the trunk form a portion of the passageway which semi-positively engage the member. The rear limbs extending down from the rear portion of the trunk form a portion of the passageway which positively engage the member.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1989Date of Patent: December 11, 1990Inventor: Vickie D. Patent number: 4964832Abstract: This invention relates to the design of a modular puppet construction system which allows the user to achieve a broadly variable configuration, thereby permitting the user to add and remove modular body parts, features, clothing, other articles of usage, and control elements. The body and attachable parts may preferably be fabricated from a loop type material. The attachable parts and control elements may have hook type material permanently affixed to allow universal placement on the loop fabricated elements. The hook type material may also advantageously be a free standing part in a back to back configuration and used as an intermediate element to attach two loop fabricated parts. Additionally, elements not fabricated from loop or hook type materials may be affixed to the loop or hook type material to facilitate use.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1989Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Inventor: Charles Bickoff

Patent number: 4917647Abstract: A comb and talk doll includes a hair actuated sound generating mechanism. A hair cluster is resiliently secured within a doll head to one end of a spring urged hair shaft. Comb and/or brush engagement of the hair cluster exteriorly of the doll head, linearly displaces the hair shaft. Another end of the hair shaft cooperatively interacts with a cam surface of a pivotal arm for actuating the sound mechanism. In another embodiment, a wire link provides an interconnection between the hair cluster and a pivotal arm. When the hair cluster is released, a spring force restores the pivotal arm to its initial position to deactuate the sound mechanism. In an alternate embodiment, displacement of the hair shaft during combable engagement of the hair cluster, closes an electrical circuit for energizing the sound mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1989Date of Patent: April 17, 1990Inventors: Joseph J. Patent number: 4681555Abstract: A soft-bodied puppet doll includes a stuffed body, a stuffed head affixed to the body, stuffed arms and legs affixed to the body, and sleeves disposed about the arms and affixed to the body. The body, sleeves and head possess interior surfaces, and said arms possess exterior surfaces, such that said surfaces together define a substantially continuous cavity within said body, dimensioned to receive the hand of a wearer therein. The puppet doll is free of any rigid reinforcement; rather, the stuffing of the elements of the doll provide the rigidity necessary for maintenance of the shape of the doll during use. The body of the doll is constructed from a stuffed body front and a stuffed body back affixed to each other along most of their side and top edges, except for neck and arm openings. The sleeves are connected to each of the front and back body halves at the arm openings, while the arms are disposed in the sleeves, affixed only to the front body half.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1986Date of Patent: July 21, 1987Inventor: Edna C. Patent number: 4629441Abstract: The doll of the present invention is formed by outlining a desired feature with an adhesive such as a meltable, fuser thread between a front and rear piece of fabric in an outline of the desired feature such as the nose or mouth. After the adhesive is made to hold the two sheets of fabric together, soft material is inserted between the two sheets within the feature. The outline of a nose is U-shaped, and soft material can be inserted through the top opening between the two pieces of fabric. The outline of a mouth is closed so the soft material is pushed through a slit in the rear piece of fabric. The mouth can also be formed by satin-like stitches in which long stitches are formed on the top of the front sheet of material extending from the outline of the mouth or lips. The soft material is inserted through the rear sheet to cause the front sheet and the satin stitches to bulge outward. The lips can also be formed by running stitches forming an outline, which is then filled.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1984Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Inventor: Mary J. Cahill

Patent number: 4626225Abstract: A toy horse figure with a generally hollow body of plastic is provided with a soft flexible mane and tail. The flexible strands of the mane are secured to a foldable membrane, adjacent to, but inward of, a relief decorated edge along each foldable side. When compressed and inserted into an elongated slot formed by recesses in mating shells of the body the decorated relief obscures both the opening and the attachment of the flexible strand. Posts used to secure mating shell halves of the body pass through apertures in the foldable membrane to secure it against removal. For the tail, flexible strands are inserted into an opening in a compressible grommet which in turn is inserted into an opening formed in the body with a decorated relief on the outer flange obscuring the opening and the attachment of the tail strands.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1985Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: Marvin Glass & AssociatesInventors: Allison W. Patent number: 4614505Abstract: A toy figure which is progressively transformable into different configurations. The figure has a body portion comprising a mass of compliant fill material with a fabric cover thereover. The body portion has fanciful material (e.g. facial components and appendages) integral therewith. A fabric segment is secured to the body portion and forms a pocket on the body portion. The pocket is resiliently deformable to allow parts of the body portion and its fanciful material to be forced through the pocket as the toy is changed from one configuration to another. The pocket has a memory and, when a desired transformation is achieved, the pocket is contractable to hold the figure in a new configuration. The top figure preferably depicts a fanciful three dimensional character in one of its basic configurations and is transformed into a ball-like form in another of its basic configurations. When the figure is in its ball-like form, some of the fanciful material is visible to give the ball-like form a fanciful appearance.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1985Date of Patent: September 30, 1986Assignee: Those Characters From ClevelandInventors: Thomas P. Patent number: 4585424Abstract: A toy doll (10), in particular, a toy bear, is provided with a bashful demeanor. The demeanor is enhanced by further providing the bear with apparatus for simulating blushing. The blushing effect is achieved by employing a face plate (12) which includes at least the cheek portions of the face, is tinted red, and transmits light. Illumination (24) is provided by lamps (24a, 24b) behind the face plate. The lamps are activated by a power source (18), such as at least one battery. A variable resistor (38) controls the amount of power to the lamps. The variable resistor is activated by pressing in on the back area (40) and/or the abdominal area (16); the greater the pressure, the more current supplied to the lamps and hence the greater the intensity of light.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1985Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Inventor: Robert DeMars
