Flaccid Element Wound About And In Contact With Portion Which Moves Aloft Patents (Class 446/42)
  • Patent number: 9993738
Abstract: In an example embodiment, a yoyo includes an axle, a first body and a second body coupled to the axle, and a string windable about the axle within a gap between the first body and the second body. The first body includes an outer rim and multiple propeller blades that extend inward from the outer rim toward the axle. The gap between the first body and the second body is smaller than three times a diameter of the string. A diameter of the axle is no larger than one sixth of the diameter of the first or second outer rim. An aggregate mass of the first and second outer rims is at least one quarter of an aggregate mass of the yoyo, string excluded.

  • Patent number: 9216363
Abstract: A flying toy figurine includes a main body having an upper body portion, a lower body portion and a middle body portion, the middle body portion including a waist portion and a hip portion. A center shaft connects the upper body portion to the lower body portion, and the waist portion and the hip portion are mounted for independent rotation about the center shaft. A motor drives a rotor assembly, including at least two main propeller blades, located in the waist portion in one direction for imparting vertical aerodynamic lift to the figurine. Rotation of the waist portion in one direction causes the hip portion to counter-rotate in the opposite direction. The center shaft is not connected to the waist portion or the hip portion and therefore rotation of the upper body portion and lower body portion remains independent of the rotation of the waist portion and the hip portion.

  • Patent number: 6146231
Abstract: A flying toy including a handle portion having an upper end. A spindle is mounted atop the upper end and has a bore extending downwardly therethrough. A rotating rod extends through the bore and into the upper end of the handle to allow relative rotation of the spindle upon the handle. The spindle has a pair of pins extending upwardly therefrom. A propeller portion is coupled with respect to the circular platform of the handle portion. The propeller portion includes an inner circular disk. The inner circular disk has a plurality of radially extending blades integrally formed with a peripheral edge thereof. Each of the blades have a predetermined angle of orientation. A length of string is secured to the spindle. The length of string has an end fixedly secured to the spindle with a remainder of the string being wrappedly disposed around the rotating rod just prior to operation of the toy.

  • Patent number: 5628620
Abstract: A main rotor is provided for use in a rotary winged model aircraft. The main rotor includes a rotor hub assembly rotatable about a vertical axis and at least two main rotor blades. Each of the main rotor blades extends in a radial direction from the rotor hub assembly. The main rotor blades each include a tip end positioned to lie in spaced-apart relation to the rotor hub assembly and a root end coupled to the rotor hub assembly for pivotable folding movement from an initial horizontal position perpendicular to the vertical axis about a horizontal axis through a desired folding angle of about 90.degree.. Forces transmitted to the rotor hub by the rotor blade during a crash-landing of a rotary winged model aircraft including the main rotor are minimized due to movement of the rotor blades through the desired folding angle.

  • Patent number: RE47176
Abstract: A propeller related vehicle in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention is described as a helicopter having an airframe housing a motor mechanism for powering a main propeller attached to a main drive shaft that extends vertically through the airframe and for powering a tail rotor. The helicopter further includes a horizontal stabilizing mechanism attached between the main propeller and the main drive shaft, which permits the main propeller to freely pivot about the main drive shaft independently from the airframe. As such when the main propeller is rotating and the main propeller begins to pitch, the rotating main propeller has a centrifugal force created by the rotation thereof and will tend to pivot about the horizontal stabilizing mechanism in a manner that offsets the pitch such that the helicopter remains in a substantially horizontal position. In addition various main propeller configurations may be employed that provide additional self-stabilization.
