  • Patent number: 6749480
Abstract: The devise described herein relates to connecting plural multi-shaped non metallic bodies utilizing disc shaped permanent magnets. The invention consists of disc magnets with axial orientation. The disc magnets are adhered within the center of a plastic bearing. The shape of the plastic bearing consists of a spherical segment relative to the height of the disc magnet creating a pivot point in the center of the disc magnet. Magnet and bearing combinations are placed into the spherical segment cavities reset into the plural bodies. When plural bodies containing the magnet bearing combination are placed close enough to over lap the flux field of each magnet reaction will be instantaneous rotation of the opposing magnets to there position of attraction and subsequently connecting the bodies together.

Abstract: A set of toy building blocks has several different basic block shapes with multiple numbers of each shape. Each block has a magnetic base at one end that enables the block to be attached magnetically to the base end of another block. Further, each block has one-half of a mechanical connection at its other end that is complemental to certain of the connectors on other blocks in the set. The mechanical connectors at one end of the blocks and the magnetic couplings at the other, together with a variety of different shapes, preferably of abstract form, permit a wide variety of toy structures to be created and erected in accordance with the child's imagination and creativity.

The side faces of each element are dimensioned so that the elements are free-standing on any side face. Two adjacent side faces of each element have projecting half star shaped connectors means formed on them, while the other two adjacent side faces have complementary grooves shaped to receive and retain the retain the projecting connectors of another such element, so that the elements can be joined together side face to side face in two mutually perpendicular direction to form a two dimensional crossword or number game. Auxiliary connecting elements are provided for connecting the rectangular elements together with their upper faces at right angles, so that the game can be played in three dimensions.

Abstract: A sectional cubic block includes a plurality of layers of structural elements, a smallest one of which is an elementary cube and the other ones are proportionally increased in dimensions based on the elementary cube and all include three plane walls that separately extend in directions of x, y and z axes and therefore define an inner space adapted to receive a next smaller structural elements therein. Each of the structural elements, except the smallest one, is formed from a plurality of elementary frames sequentially proportionally increased in dimensions based on the elementary cube. Each of the elementary frames includes three continued right-angled parts that are respectively included in three planes extended in the directions of x, y and z axes. This particular configuration of the elementary frames enables children to freely stack the elementary frames to create many changeful shapes.

Abstract: A geometric model construction system comprised of a variety of shape elements. These shape elements are connected to each other along edges by connector strip parts in a hinged, sliding union. This union allows a full continuous range of angular positions between adjacent shape elements. Polyhedra and other geometric forms may be easily built up by joining connector strips onto multiple shape elements. These shape elements may be flat or curved polygons of a sheet material (10) or may be skeletal wire frame elements (12). Hinged sliding joints between shape elements and connector strips are accomplished with hinge-leaf (30) and hinge-pivot features (42). Female features of c-shaped cross-section are designed to admit and grip male features of circular cross-section along shape element edges (14). Finished models may be easily disassembled and parts reused. They are also suitable for long term display, and will not degrade over time.

A twist in the flexible arms permits axial flexing in addition to the lateral flexing capability in all directions. Distal receiving ends of the flexible arms have laterally expanding and contracting flexible loops, arms, coils, sleeves, cables, or spring-loaded forked arms capable of contracting and expanding from two to ten times the thickness of the flexible arms to accommodate a wide range of sizes of tubes attachable to the flexible arms. Abstract: The invention relates to a toy construction kit comprising a plurality of elongated rod members of different lengths; and a plurality of joining members. Each joining member is configured and dimensioned to be capable of connecting at least three rod members together around a common vertex point in a weave pattern such that the rods do not pass through the vertex point but are oriented about it in a clockwise or counter-clockwise arrangement. At least some and preferably all rod members are formed with a zig-zag configuration to avoid bending the rod members at vertex points. After making a structure by weaving the rod members and temporarily or permanently connecting them with the joining members, unique and original space frames are obtained.
