Abstract: A bi-directional grinder for allowing an operator to change the direction of rotation of the wheel, having a housing, a motor capable of bi-directional rotation, and a shaft. The grinding wheel is mounted on the shaft within a shroud and attached to the shaft with a locking mechanism. The shaft has a left threaded bottom portion and a right threaded bore therein. Once the grinding wheel is positioned on the shaft, a nut is tightened onto the threaded bottom portion of the shaft to tighten the wheel against the shoulder. A bolt with a broad head is inserted into the shaft bore so that the broad head is tightened against the nut. A spring loaded pin extends through the housing and is mateable with an off center transverse hole in the circular gear. When aligned, the pin may be inserted into the gear hole to cause the gear and shaft to cease rotation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a power tool, in particular to an angle grinder, having a quick clamping device for fastening of a tool between a clamping flange and a counter flange. Such quick clamping devices are usually equipped with an actuation element, during the transfer of which from a clamping position into a release position the clamping is neutralized. In the quick clamping device according to the invention, the actuation element returns, on its own, and in a controlled way, when in the release position and, by accident, the motor of the power tool is turned on. For that purpose, an eccentric being mounted on the actuation element acts with its running surface onto a cam in such a way that it retains the eccentric due to the frictional force acting between the cam and the running surface.

Abstract: A motorized spindle assembly for a grinding wheel is fabricated with an opening extending through the spindle casing, and stator and so as to extend in the direction of the spindle axis of rotation at least the length of the stator. The opening is of a size, depth, configuration and disposition so that when the spindle assembly is utilized to grind a workpiece and to do so is moved towards the workpiece, that portions of the workpiece are received within the opening thus permitting the spindle assembly and its grinding wheel to be moved as close as possible to the workpiece axis of rotation. The motorized spindle assembly is carried by a wheelhead for coaction with an additional spindle assembly carrying a grinding wheel with a larger radius. The larger radius grinding wheel is utilized to rough grind cam lobes and the smaller grinding wheel is utilized to finish grind the cam lobes and to grind concave cam contours for the cam lobes.

Abstract: There is disclosed a polishing machine capable of flattening a wafer surface uniformly. The machine can modify the flatness of the surface during polishing. The machine has an index table and a polishing head 18. The table attracts the wafer to be polished such that the wafer faces upward. The table rotates to the primary polishing station. The polishing head has a pressure application cylinder 21 and a base plate 22. The cylinder is held to a carrier at a given angle. The base plate holds polishing cloth 24 and is mounted to the cylinder so as to be swingable in three dimensions. The cloth touches the wafer surface and rotates at a high speed, thus flattening it. At the second polishing station, polishing cloth attached to another polishing head touches the wafer surface and rotates at a high speed, thus finally polishing the wafer surface.
