Patent number: 11565356Abstract: A method for producing a replaceable cutting head is described. The replaceable cutting head is manufactured by extruding a blank. During extrusion of the blank, a number of helical coolant channels and a number of helical flutes are simultaneously formed. After extrusion, the flutes have a first angle of twist (D1), and the coolant channels have a second angle of twist (D2). After extrusion, the blank is sintered and then reworked to selectively adjust the first angle of twist (D1) and the pitch of the flutes. The method produces an endless blank that is capable of being parted off to a desired length without any sacrificial allowance, which provides significant material and cost savings as compared to conventional methods.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2018Date of Patent: January 31, 2023Assignee: KENNAMETAL INC.Inventor: Tim Guter

Patent number: 7040209Abstract: A fixture for holding tools to be processed in a rotational processing apparatus. The fixture includes at least one mounting rod with a plurality of spacers slidably disposed on the mounting rod. A plurality of tools are disposed about the rod, each tool being spaced from an adjacent tool by one of the spacers. A removable attachment is provided on at least one end of the rod for inhibiting the spacers from sliding off the rod. The fixture may also include first and second end plates mounted to the rod on either side of the products being finished. One or more springs may also me incorporated onto the rod between a spacer and the first or second end plates. A process for loading and using the fixture is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2003Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignee: Mikronite Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Steve E. Hoffman

Patent number: 6907809Abstract: A saw blade positioning device has two drive mechanisms and two guidance devices, which are preferably oriented at right angles in respect to each other. If a first guidance device is oriented in the radial direction of the circular saw blade by the linear guides, and the other guidance device in the circumferential direction, a desired advancement curve of the engagement member, independently of the saw blade diameter, is achieved respectively by means of the same control, or respectively the same control pulses, and of the drive mechanisms, in every radial position of the first guidance device. A mechanically robust basic structure results in addition, which makes a precise positioning possible.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2000Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Walter AGInventor: Harry Rein

Patent number: 5921847Abstract: A swing grinding fixture and process for using the same is disclosed that enables a conventional surface grinder to remanufacture a machine tool cutting insert by grinding a predetermined shape into the insert. A quick clamping insert holder coupled to a slide secures the tool insert in the fixture. A precision spindle cartridge is mounted in a rigid fixture body and coupled to the slide to provide the swing motion required to generate the radius to be ground. The rigid fixture body includes a pair of micrometer adjustable stops which limit the arc through which the slide may be swung and control the flank shape ground into the insert. In an alternative embodiment, a sine plate is attached to the fixture body and is used to incline the fixture to a predetermined insert rake angle. In operation, the grinding fixture is securely mounted to the table of a surface grinder and a cutting tool insert is secured in the insert holder.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1997Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Inventor: Robert P.
