  • Patent number: 8911283
Abstract: An abrasive tool includes a bonded abrasive body having abrasive grains contained within a bonding material, wherein the bonded abrasive body comprises a complex shape having a form depth (FD) of at least about 0.3. The form depth is described by the equation [(Rl?Rs)/Rl], wherein Rs is a smallest radius (Rs) at a point along the longitudinal axis of the bonded abrasive body and Rl is a largest radius (Rl) at a point along the longitudinal axis of the bonded abrasive body. The abrasive tool can be used to finish complex shapes in workpieces.

  • Patent number: 8246424
Abstract: A polishing disc for a tool for the fine machining of optically active surfaces, particularly on spectacle lenses as workpieces, comprises a main body which has a center axis and on which there is fixed an intermediate layer which is softer than the main body and on which a polishing agent carrier rests. The intermediate layer has, with respect to the center axis, a radial inner region of substantially constant axial thickness and an adjoining radial outer region. The latter is formed or is fixed to the main body in a particular way so as to prevent the edge of the polishing disc from being imprinted on the machined surface of the workpiece in the form of very fine, scratch-like microstructures. Also proposed is a simple method which can be used to produce such a polishing disc.

  • Patent number: 7297049
Abstract: A disposable sanding device is fabricated as a continuous rope-like article which is adapted for selective segmentation and application as a plurality of serially arranged disposable hand sanding devices or ropes. Each hand sanding device is formed as a generally elongated rod shaped base portion formed of lightweight material such as closed cellfoam having a relatively constant cross-section along its line of elongation. An abrasive surface is permanently applied to the external surface of the base portion via an intermediate adhesive layer. As constructed, the sanding device is operable to conform to curvilinear contours of a work piece to be sanded upon application of user induced loading against the work piece. A dispenser holds a rolled length of sanding rope and includes a cutter feature for severing pieces of sanding rope from the coil as required as well as a retainer for the free end of the coil. Abstract: A method of preparing a sanding block to repair a damaged surface profile. A first step involves finding an undamaged surface profile that matches the damaged surface profile. A second step involves providing a moulding block having a body with a flat surface surrounded by an upstanding flexible peripheral seal to form an enclosure. A third step involves filling the enclosure of the moulding block with hot melt adhesive and, with the hot melt adhesive still mouldable, pressing the moulding block against the undamaged surface profile until the hot melt adhesive solidifies to form a negative image of the undamaged surface profile. A fourth step involves removing the negative image formed of solidified hot melt adhesive from the undamaged surface profile for use as a sanding block.

Abstract: The current positioning data of a machining tool with regard to a reference surface of a workpiece or of a body connected to the workpiece, is determined. The tool and the workpiece to be machined are relatively moveable toward and away from one another, and the rotary speed of a drive motor for the tool is set to a starting rotary speed which is so low that, when the tool comes into contact with the reference surface, its rotary speed is measurably reduced, the reference surface is moved past the tool before the tool is in contact and while the tool is in contact. As a result, the braking moments in the bearings are increased, and the drive motor comes to a stop quicker.

Abstract: A slider producing method in which a slider bar is lapped from the side of a base to the side of a thin-film element of a slider, in a fixed direction substantially perpendicular to the slider bar.
