  • Patent number: 5924918
Abstract: Poultry bodies are processed by cutting them up into consumable products. A conveyor (1) having an endless flat link chain (4) has shackles for receiving and advancing the poultry bodies in a suspended position along a conveying path in which are arranged processing tools. An auxiliary conveyor (17) is driven by means of a gear (20) arranged in the area of the processing tool and which meshes with the linear run portion of the main conveyor by means of a gear wheel (21). By providing entrainers at a predetermined spacing between the joints (9) of the chain links (6, 7) the effective pitch of the flat link chain (4) can be at least halved and the auxiliary conveyor (17) can be driven substantially uniformly by a gear wheel (21) of relatively small diameter.

  • Patent number: 5762547
Abstract: A shrimp orienting and deheading apparatus (10) includes a top track (11), a middle track (12), a bottom track (13) and a deheading station (14). The top track has a V-shaped channel (16) with a step (18) which causes a shrimp (S) positioned tail forward and dorsal side down to rotate to a head forward dorsal side up position as they fall to the underlying middle track. The middle track is separated from the bottom track by a gap (21). Shrimp entering the gap in a tail forward dorsal side up position fall into the gap while shrimp in all other positions bridge the gap. The deheading station has a pair of severing fingers (55) with a vertical blade (62) and two horizontal blades (63, 64).

  • Patent number: 5672100
Abstract: Live poultry is caused to face in a desired direction prior to engagement of the poultry legs by a leg catching device by dropping the poultry one-by-one off the terminal end of a moving conveyor onto a lower conveyor having poultry leg engaging devices associated therewith. The poultry leg catching devices engage the poultry legs and the poultry are then inverted as they are conveyed to slaughter shackles. A slaughter shackle is configured to receive sets of poultry legs from the leg catching devices in a continuous process. The poultry is delivered to the first conveyor from poultry transportation boxes that are inverted along a horizontal axis to vertically drop the poultry onto a delivery conveyor system from which the poultry are delivered one-by-one to the first conveyor.

  • Patent number: 5588906
Abstract: A variable-offset, poultry deboning system having a conveyor fitted with variable-offset, poultry support arms that bend toward the sides of the conveyor and create a two-sided, poultry deboning-conveyor. The support arms are installed so that successive arms turn toward opposite sides of the conveyor. Poultry support fittings, including, but certainly not limited to, deboning cones and half-pads are mounted on the top of each support arm. Support arms that bend toward the same side of the conveyor are fitted alternately with deboning cones and half-pads. However, in one alternative configuration, all support arms are fitted with deboning cones, while in another alternative configuration, all support arms are fitted with deboning half-pads. Additionally, in still other alternative configurations, products-conveyors may be mounted above the conveyor bed or on each side of the conveyor bed.

  • Patent number: 5487700
Abstract: An improved poultry shackle assembly for suspending poultry carcasses by their hocks from an overhead conveyor system for movement along a poultry processing line comprises a support frame from which a pair of spaced stirrups depend. Each of the stirrups has an upwardly extending rod that is journaled within a cylindrical sleeve on the support frame for rotation of the stirrup to accommodate spreading and rotation of the legs of a poultry carcass suspended therefrom. A pin extends outwardly from the rods through an inclined slot formed in the sleeves to restrict rotational movement of the stirrups between first and second rotary positions and to bias the stirrups gravitationally to a first rotary position wherein the pins are nestled within the bottom ends of the slots.

  • Patent number: 5358441
Abstract: The present invention allows fish processing machinery designed to process pollock or salmon, such as the Baader 182, to be adapted to process flat fish, such as sole. One embodiment of the present invention includes a generally rectangular fish holder that replaces the current fish holders on a fish processing machine. The fish holders include two arms which extend over a portion of the fins and body of a flat fish and hold it in place in the fish holder. The arms include two recesses that have slanted rear walls that center the flat fish as it is placed within the fish holder. Two slots extend across the width of the fish holder to allow a rotating blade to extend beneath the upper surface of the fish holder so as to ensure that the blades cut cleanly through the thickness of the fish. The present invention allows fish processing machinery to hold and center a flat fish so that the head and tail may be cut off to produce various products, such as kirimi.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to an automated poultry processing system having a novel chicken hind quarter cutting stage that does not require the individual chicken hind quarters to be removed from the moving treadmill before or after halving the chicken hind quarters. Each chicken hind quarter is placed into a moveable shackle including a rotatable shackle assembly. Each rotatable shackle assembly includes a cam plate that, when moved into contact with a stationary cam member, causes the shackle assembly to rotate 90.degree., thereby rotating the chicken hind quarter by 90.degree.. The chicken hind quarter then moves into contact with a guide member that positions the chicken hind quarter for subsequent cutting by a rotary saw. The chicken hind quarter remains in contact with the guide member until the saw has cut the chicken hind quarter into halves, thereby facilitating a precise cut of the chicken hind quarter.
