Abstract: An epilating device (1) has a housing (2) defining a handle (4) and first and second shoulder portions (6, 8) forming an open jaw (10). A tweezer portion (12) is mounted in the jaw (10) for rotation about its axis such that an opening (20) is formed through the device (1) from a front side (22) of the housing (2) to a rear side (24) of the housing (2), the opening (20) being bounded by the handle (4), the shoulder portions (6,8) and the tweezer portion (12). A drive mechanism (36) located within the housing (2) is arranged to apply rotational motion to rotate the tweezer portion (12) about the axis. By providing an opening (20) through the housing (2) of the epilator (1) from the front (22) to the rear side (24), collection of hair and debris beneath the tweezer portion (12) is avoided.

The blades are mounted on a common support (5) which executes a translational alternating movement along an axis parallel to the edges of the blades. Abstract: A depilating appliance comprises a rotary depilation roller formed by a series of blades placed side by side. The blades of the roller are movably mounted on their driving shaft so as to be capable of pivoting about an axis perpendicular to the shaft. The depilation blades are actuated by means of sliding bars which are capable of producing a pivotal displacement of the blades at least once per revolution of the roller so that one blade pivots in one direction, the following blade pivots in the opposite direction, and each blade pivots about a separate and distinct axis perpendicular to the driving shaft. Two adjacent blades are thus clamped against each other opposite to the work surface, the hairs being then pinched between the two blades in order to be removed.

Abstract: A depilatory device includes a flexible plastic cylindrical member formed with a plurality of circumferentially-extending slits, the plastic member being rotated about its longitudinal axis while supported in an arcuate position such that the slits open and close during rotation of the plastic member to receive and pluck the hairs. The plastic member includes a high-strength flexible core imparting mechanical strength, and the slits are formed with corrugated or otherwise non-planar faces to enhance their gripping power when the slits are closed.
