Publication number: 20140045419Abstract: A window air handler mounted to a window admits a supply of air from inside the building at the top of the window and blows that air downwardly and onto the inner surface of the window. A leg depends downwardly from an air inlet, to air outlets which express the air across the width of the window. The air can be ambient, or heated. The so-expressed air warms the glass enough to avoid condensation on the glass, or to remove and absorb condensation which has already formed on the glass. The air handler can comprise a single leg extending down along one side of the window or two legs extending down along opposing sides of the window. Air inlets are proximate the tops of the legs, and air outlets are below the inlets.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2013Publication date: February 13, 2014Inventor: Joseph J. Bartmann

Patent number: 8112860Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of treating a glazing panel from an inside location. Moreover, the present invention relates to a method of treating glazing panels used in windows and patio doors. Initially, a hole is formed on both inside and outside panes on windows and on the side and outside frames of patio doors. Next, a filter is attached to the outside pane to cover the hole whereby the filter membrane is designed to allow the passage of air and inhibit the ingress of moisture. Finally, a seal is used to cover the hole on the inside pane or to ensure that the building air does not enter the interior of the glazing panel. Where the panes are tempered glass, the hole(s) may be drilled through the frame. If necessary, one or more tubes may be inserted through the hole. Various kinds of filters are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2004Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Inventor: Stephen Collins

Publication number: 20090270023Abstract: An air handler draws air from inside a building, optionally from a building space heating system, and expresses that air such that the air travels along the inside surface of a window glazing unit which is susceptible to condensation. The air can be expressed at ambient temperature or with a modest amount of supplemental heat. As the air is expressed onto the window, a convection curtain of relatively warmer air passes adjacent the inside surface of the glass, warming the glass enough that condensation does not form on the glass. The system can be controlled using a sensor, optionally controlled by a computer or other controller, which controls the air flow according to needs sensed at the window. Such computer can be used to provide individualized control of condensation on each of multiple windows. A blower may be used to achieve increased control of rate and persistence of air flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 21, 2009Publication date: October 29, 2009Inventor: Joseph J. Bartmann

Patent number: 7607267Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for venting an airspace formed between an ornamental window and a protective panel. The venting means includes at least one pair of vent openings, one for air to enter the airspace and one for air to exit. These vent openings include a path through the frame holding the protective panel to an interior opening which is to the airspace. The vent openings, the paths and the interior openings must be of adequate size to minimize the range of temperature and moisture within the airspace. It is recommended that effective vent openings are at least one square inch for every 2000-2500 square inches of ornamental window.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2003Date of Patent: October 27, 2009Assignee: Bovard Studio, IncInventors: Rodney Fulton, William Hickey, Ronald Bovard, Robert Greco, Reneā² Holmberg, Paul Conley, Clint Kobelt

Patent number: 7238105Abstract: A dewpoint cooler comprises: a first air circuit and a second air circuit coupled thereto via a heat-conducting wall, through which two circuits can flow two media, wherein the second medium contains a gas, heat-conducting wall break-up means for breaking up at least the thermal boundary layer (50), the laminar boundary layer and the relative humidity boundary layer in both media, which break-up means comprise heat-conducting protrusions; wherein the surfaces of said wall and the break-up means are covered with a hydrophilic coating, which can absorb an evaporable liquid, retain it and relinquish it again (100), such that the wetted coating, the heat-conducting surfaces and the break-up means are cooled. A wetting (150) unit for subjecting the secondary medium to wetting by the evaporable liquid such that evaporated liquid entrained by the secondary medium extracts heat from the primary medium via the wall.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2003Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: Oxyoell Holding B.V.Inventor: Johannes Antonius Maria Reinders

Patent number: 6151904Abstract: An air jet system is provided that includes a refrigerated display case. The novel apparatus includes a glass display window, which is transparent and has an outer surface for viewing the contents of the display case. The unit also has a front bar that defines an air passage therein when connected to a bracket and also defines a channel at one of its ends which has at least one opening. The bracket connects and supports the display window and the front bar on the display case. A nozzle is positioned in the channel and has holes therein for air passage and is positioned to direct air through the opening in the end of the front bar and onto the outer surface of the display window. A centrifugal blower is connected to the bracket and is adapted to blow air through the air passage and through the holes in the nozzle so that air is guided over the outer surface of the glass display window to eliminate moisture condensation.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1999Date of Patent: November 28, 2000Assignee: Kysor Industrial CorporationInventor: Zhihui Jin

Patent number: 5884865Abstract: A double-pane aircraft cabin window arrangement avoids fogging, frosting, or icing of the window without using any active pressure regulating system or other active components. An inner pane and an outer pane are held in a window seal that is mounted in a frame connected to the aircraft fuselage. An interspace is formed between the two panes and sealed by the window seal. A condensation inducing tube is connected by a hose to an adapter tube, which passes through the window seal into the window interspace. The condensation inducing tube is connected in a direct thermally conducting manner to the outer fuselage skin of the aircraft. An open end of the condensation inducing tube is arranged to receive pressurized air from the aircraft cabin interior. As the air flows through the condensation inducing tube, any condensable moisture in the air condenses out on the interior walls of the tube, so that only dry air flows into the window interspace.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1997Date of Patent: March 23, 1999Assignee: Daimler-Benz Aerospace Airbus GmbHInventors: Thomas Scherer, Rainer Mueller, Sven Uhlemann
