  • Patent number: 10907358
Abstract: Vents are disclosed for covering openings on roofs. The disclosed vents cover openings on metal roofs and prevent moisture and objects from entering the opening while allowing air to pass therethrough. The vents disclosed herein also prevent moisture from entering the building through openings that can be created when the vents are attached to a roof. The vents include a cap, a collar, and a flashing configured to contact the roof. The vents can also include a screen placed between the cap and the collar. The collar can have arms formed on an upper portion thereof to facilitate connection of the collar to the cap. Feet can be formed on a bottom portion of the collar. Once the vent is fully assembled, the feet can be positioned underneath the flashing and can be the main connection point of the vent to a roof. Due to the design of this assembly, fasteners pass through the feet providing a sound and secure attachment to the roof.

  • Patent number: 10072859
Abstract: An inverted exhaust plenum module exhausts air from an enclosure into an ambient environment while mitigating airflow restrictions caused by ambient wind conditions, particularly headwinds impinging on exhaust vents. The plenum module includes wall elements that extend downwards from separate edges of two separate roof elements of the enclosure, forming a plenum between the wall elements that is open at the top. Exhaust vents in the wall elements exhaust air from the enclosure into the plenum to circulate into the ambient environment via the top of the plenum. By exhausting air into a plenum that extends beneath roof elements, the vents are at least partially obscured from ambient winds that might otherwise impinge on the vents. A wing element can be installed to induce exhaust airflow via lowering air pressure at the top of the plenum. The plenum module can be a separate module that is coupled to a structure.

  • Patent number: 9445574
Abstract: An attic inlet has a square tube to communicate between an attic and a room through a substrate, with a lid permitting airflow when open, and not when closed. The lid is moved by upper pull bars and lower connecting bars attached to the lid. Upper pull bars and lower connecting bars are attached by pivot pins to yoke arms pivoting about parallel axles. Springs may urge the lid into closed default position. An axle with an associated stub arm may be rotated by cord to open the lid. Alternatively a counterweighted arm may urge the lid into closed default position, where negative pressure can open the lid. The lid is attached by tabs on the connecting bars passing through the lid, and lid locking bars engaging apertures in the tabs.

  • Patent number: 8938921
Abstract: Disclosed is a heat exchange conduit formed between pre-fabricated building panels and a daylighting section integral within pre-fabricated, structural panels. The daylighting section has the capability to take ceiling air (or air below free-standing arrays) and either return it to the building during heating months, reject the heat, or shunt it for other uses after being warmed through a dual pane glazing assembly with infrared rejection. During summer days, this allows for dramatic reduction in building cooling demand. Heat exchange surfaces within the conduit are thermally tied to the exterior components of the panels to allow heating by solar insolation or cooling to night sky or air. An advanced insulation system adds to thermal performance and sealed insulation cavities prevent moisture degradation of R-Values. Passage through the heat exchange conduit allows for active whole roof solar collection in spring/fall and night cooling capability during summer night operation.

  • Patent number: 6308472
Abstract: A roll-form roof ridge vent having alignment means to facilitate ease of installation. The indeterminate-length, single-sheet vent is provided with a pliable medial hinge strip, or a set of expandable live hinges, which enable the otherwise straight vent to be laterally and/or angularly repositioned from its substantially straight configuration. Thus, lateral adjustments can be made to the positioning of the vent as it is being installed so that the vent is centered throughout its length over the roof ridge. The lateral adjustments do not result in buckling of the vent or unwanted distortion.

  • Patent number: 5561952
Abstract: An improved roof ventilator is disclosed for venting an attic space while simultaneously admitting sunlight into same. One version of the invention comprises a base/flange having a centrally extruding conduit therethrough, a louvered hood member connectable to the conduit wall to achieve a fixed elevation thereby creating a baffle which restricts water infiltration. The hood further comprises a translucent oriel which is self-aligning to the conduit opening upon the installation of the hood to the base/flange. Another version of the invention comprises the oriel of the hood and the base/flange conjoined with a trim collar to form a skylight only. Used in pairs, the first skylight member is installed to the exterior of a pitched roof with the trim collar elevated within the roof structure. The second member, having a smaller diameter trim collar, is installed from the interior and mated to the first member whereas both collars telescopingly communicate to adapt to the various thicknesses of roof structures.
