Wall Type Patents (Class 454/276)
  • Patent number: 5685290
Abstract: A combustion air kit for providing a source of external air to feed a fire in a firebox is installed during new construction or as a retrofit unit into existing fireplaces. A masonry air vent brick having a hole therein air flow is included in the combustion air kit. The flow of air through the brick and to the firebox is regulated by a spinner cap mounted for rotation on a threaded post seated within a plug contained in the air vent brick. The air vent brick is connected to a flexible duct which is attached at an opposite end to a vent inlet brick located on the external of the house, chimney or other structure. The vent inlet also includes a vent inlet cover to provide an attractive inlet for the air to the firebox.

  • Patent number: 5372543
Abstract: A vent arrangement for enclosures that prevents the penetration of a pry bar. The vent arrangement includes a first predetermined pattern of openings of predetermined shape and dimensions provided at the exterior wall of the enclosure. The dimensions of the openings and the spacing between the openings are determined relative to the pry bar and the material in which openings are formed, such that the pry bar cannot fully enter the openings and such that the portion of the pry bar that can be applied to the openings does not cause any substantial deformation of the material surrounding the openings that could permit widening of the openings so as to allow full entry of the tip of the pry bar. In a preferred embodiment, to permit the maximum percentage area of openings within the pattern of openings while achieving the desired tamper-resistant characteristics, the first predetermined pattern of openings includes staggered rows of openings such that the openings of adjacent rows are not aligned.

  • Patent number: 5292281
Abstract: A vertical soffit vent in which a length of frieze board is affixed adjacent a length of soffit molding, with a unique arrangement of vents--volutes--in between. More particularly, a length of frieze board having particularly shaped and dimensioned volutes therein is attached or integrally molded to an adjacent length of molding by means of a solid spacer strip. (Alternatively, the spacer strip may be eliminated and replaced with protruding teeth on the frieze board.) The entire combination may be integrally molded. The volutes in the frieze board are contained in the upper half of the frieze board, in and around the solid spacer strip. The combined vertical soffit vent is intended for mounting under the eaves of roof constructions, and permits enhanced air flow into the attic area by means of the uniquely shaped volutes. The outlet ends of the volutes are covered with an insect screen.

  • Patent number: 5192244
Abstract: An air vent stopper is provided for a ventilation grill having a plurality of ribs mounted within an opening in a building wall. The air vent stopper consists of a plate being of a size and shape to completely cover over the ribs in the ventilation grill. A gasket being of a same size and shape as the plate is positioned between the plate and the ventilation grill. Clip-on U-shaped clamp is for removably securing the plate with the gasket to some of the ribs of the ventilation grill, so as to completely seal the ventilation grill from leaking air therethrough during cold weather conditions.

  • Patent number: 5167104
Abstract: A weep hole cover for covering existing weep holes in masonry walls in a manner to permit moisture drainage from and ventilation of the existing weep holes while preventing entry of insects into said weep holes. The weep hole cover includes a top planar sheet sloping downwardly and outwardly from the masonry wall at an acute angle approximating 10 degrees, sidewalls integral with said top planar sheet, each sidewall ending in an outwardly extending flange engageable with the masonry wall, and a bottom planar sheet integral with the top planar sheet and the side walls and having an edge engageable with the masonry wall. The bottom planar sheet has a plurality of pin holes enabling drainage and ventilation while preventing insect entry. The weep hole cover is sealably attached to the masonry wall by silicone adhesive around the perimeter thereof.
