  • Patent number: 11320157
Abstract: A natural ventilator is herein disclosed that is free of moving parts, wind-activated, rain-proof, and free of dust or smog infiltration. It is not only suitable to be a standalone natural ventilator, but is also advantageous to be used as an enhanced exhaust exit in a forced-air ventilation system, for such enclosed spaces or objects as buildings and vehicles. It can also be used as a suction generator that supplies so-called suction or negative pressure to help stabilize such building components as roof membranes by channeling the low pressure to their underside to balance the wind uplift above. The ventilator has an enhanced rainwater-proof method that serves to defend the vent system, and the space being vented, against rainwater invasion, even if raindrop trajectory becomes highly oblique from vertical as driven by strong winds.

  • Patent number: 10036403
Abstract: A variable volume induction nozzle is designed for use with a variable speed fan, where fan speed is adjusted in response to variable exhaust gas flow volume in order to conserve energy. In order to maintain a minimum exhaust discharge velocity to ensure adequate plume height, an axially-extendable, upwardly tapered flow-impinging pod within the nozzle creates a variable annular nozzle outlet opening. As opposed to a circumferentially-constricted outlet opening, the variable annular outlet produces a uniform discharge velocity profile conducive to the induction of ambient air through a windband.

  • Patent number: 8974272
Abstract: An aspirating induction nozzle for vertical connection to the outlet of a pressurized exhaust gas flow comprises a central nozzle surrounded by a wind band and one or more guide vanes. Ambient air is induced into a mixing zone within the central nozzle to dilute the primary effluent and increase the volumetric discharge flow rate to achieve greater plume lift. The mixing zone within the central nozzle is protected from crosswind influences, which would otherwise diminish plume lift.

  • Patent number: 7547249
Abstract: An exhaust system for expelling air from a building includes an outlet nozzle that improves entrainment of ambient air with the building exhaust air. The improved air entrainment results in increased exhaust air dilution and plume height to better disperse the exhaust air away from the building. The nozzle has an H-shaped outlet configuration with two lateral outlet sections joined by a central transverse outlet section. The nozzle has a pair of outer lateral walls, a pair of outer transverse walls, and a pair of sloped inner lateral walls that angle outwards from near an inlet end of the nozzle towards corresponding outer lateral walls. The nozzle can be part of the exhaust system at the outlet side of the exhaust fan within a windband that aids in entraining ambient air with the exhaust air exiting the nozzle.

Abstract: A surface mounted device includes a hollowed base body mounted on a building or vehicle exterior, and a hollowed raised body supported and secured on the base body with hollowed elongated members. A free space is formed between the base body and the raised body. An opening or openings are facilitated on, and near the center of, the lower surface of the raised body, to connect the free space with the internal space of the base body through the hollowed raised body and hollowed elongated support members. • Patent number: 5722235
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to an exhaust gas back pressure attenuator for truck exhaust stacks. In particular, the present invention is directed toward an improved exhaust gas deflector that reduces the back pressure within the vertical tubular exhaust stacks of over-the-road type tractor-trailer trucks. At highway speeds a number of factors may operate to make it difficult for the engine to force exhaust gas out of the system and into the atmosphere. The present invention is attached to the top of the stack and is designed to create an aerodynamic low-pressure condition that in effect pulls the exhaust gas from the stack, thereby reducing back pressure buildup, decreasing the load on the engine, and increasing the fuel efficiency. A first embodiment of the present invention employs an air wedge to divide a first ambient air volume and cause it to pass on either side of the exhaust stack, thereby creating a pressure differential which operates to pull the exhaust gases thereout.
