  • Patent number: 7167692
Abstract: A high frequency peak detector includes an operational amplifier, a transistor, a capacitor, and an average to peak conversion module. A first inverting input of the operational amplifier receives a high frequency input signal, a second inverting input of the operational amplifier receives a common mode voltage of the high frequency signal, and a non-inverting input of the operational amplifier is coupled to the output of the operational amplifier. A gate of the transistor is operably coupled to the output of the operational amplifier and the source of the transistor is operably coupled to a power supply. The capacitor is operably coupled to the drain of the transistor to provide an analog signal representing an average peak to common mode value of the high frequency signal and to a circuit ground. The average to peak conversion module determines a peak value of the high frequency signal based on the analog signal and the common mode value.

  • Patent number: 7102513
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for automatically installing and/or aligning antennas of wireless bridges in computer networks. In general terms, when a particular bridge is installed or aligned, an installation mode is triggered which automatically displays an indication of one or more signal strength levels of signals received into the particular bridge. In the automatic installation mode, the particular bridge automatically searches for a remote bridge with which it can associate. After a remote bridge is associated with the particular bridge, the signal strength received by the particular bridge from the found bridge is then displayed on one or more indicators, such as light emitting diodes. Thus, one can then adjust the antenna of the bridge until an optimum power level is achieved without using any specialized equipment, such as a voltmeter or laptop for interfacing with the bridge to obtain the signal strength indication.

Abstract: The purpose of the invention is to provide an accurate measurement of RF signal power transfer between a power amplifier circuit and an antenna in the presence of supply voltage variations, temperature variations and VSWR mismatch. Knowing the VSWR mismatch enables modification of a control loop for the PA and thus allows for output power adjustment in order to make the PA more efficient and robust against VSWR changes. Having an indication of power delivered to the load and the VSWR is desirable for many wireless applications especially in those applications where the PA can generate emissions that are out of band and all emissions subject to industry standards. In particular, the embodiments of the invention are applicable to wireless LANs (WLANs).

Abstract: A method and system for determining location and/or motion for one or more wireless devices communicating at short range (i.e. less than about 30 feet) with other wireless devices on a wireless network. Signal strength measurements are passed within communication frames between wireless devices which can be used to represent an inverse of the distance, wherefrom a distance vector is determined between wireless devices. Using multiple distance vectors from multiple wireless network devices, a 2-D or 3-D coordinate representation for position of each wireless network in 2-D or 3-D space can be calculated. These coordinates can be utilized for determining the precise traveled position of a specific wireless network device in motion and for establishing a motion sensing system. • Patent number: 6754467
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for adaptively controlling a transmission radiation pattern. Radio signals coming through a plurality of paths are received and demodulated for each path. The received level or received quality of each demodulated signal is compared to each other to select a signal with the highest level or most excellent quality. A path corresponding to a selected path is set at a path for transmission. When a plurality of signals each with an almost equal level or received quality exists in signals demodulated for each path, a history of transmission power control command (TPC) transmitted from a communication partner is referred. In other words, the reception condition in a communication partner is checked. Thereby, it is judged whether or not the currently selected path is appropriate as the path for transmission.

  • Patent number: 6728520
Abstract: A system and method for controlling transmitted output power of outdoor antenna units coupled to hand held wireless devices. When the antenna unit is operating with wireless network technology it may also be referred to as an outdoor unit. Transmit power level of an information signal is controlled in the outdoor unit by obtaining a control voltage from the hand held unit. The control voltage is used by the outdoor unit, to adjust the power level of the transmitted information signal. The transmit power level is adjusted by the outdoor unit performing the following steps: (1) detecting the transmit power level of the antenna unit, (2) determining whether the transmit power level is equal to a control voltage, and (3) adjusting the transmit power level based on the control voltage if the transmit power level is not equal to the control voltage. The adjustment of the transmit power level is accomplished by a closed loop circuit that maintains a constant loop gain.

Abstract: A system and method for classifying signals occurring in a frequency band. One or more characteristics of one or more signals in the frequency band are detected using any suitable technology, such as a device that can generate characteristics of signal pulses detected in the frequency band. Data pertaining to the signal pulses is accumulated over time. The accumulated signal data is compared against reference data associated with known signals to classify the one or more signals in the frequency band based on the comparison. The accumulated data may include one or more characteristics selected from the group consisting of: pulse center frequency, pulse bandwidth, pulse duration, time between pulses and number of different active pulses, and wherein the reference data associated with each of a plurality of known signals comprises one or more characteristics selected from the group consisting of: pulse center frequency, pulse bandwidth, pulse duration and time between pulses.

  • Patent number: 6625428
Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring a cellular communications system; comprising a plurality of voltage standing-wave ratio (VSWR) measurement means located at respective connections to antennas of said communications system and at respective discontinuities in radio transmission lines to said distributed antennas; wherein each said VSWR measurement means is individually identifiable, has a respective threshold, and is arranged to compare its measured VSWR value to its respective threshold and identifiably indicate an error status if its measured VSWR value exceeds its threshold. Also described is a corresponding method of monitoring a cellular communications system. Also described is a VSWR measurement apparatus, and an antenna arrangement comprising an antenna and such a VSWR measurement apparatus.
