  • Patent number: 7970372
Abstract: A mixer mixes respective signals of L1, L2C, and L5-E5a with a local oscillation signal where the frequency of the L1 signal has an image relationship with the frequencies of the L2C and L5-E5a signals to conduct frequency conversion. An image removal mixer mixes the respective position signals of 1stIF with a local oscillation signal where the frequency of the L1 signal of the 1stIF has an image relationship with the frequencies of the L2C signal and the L5-E5a signal of 1stIF to conduct frequency conversion. The image removal mixer then outputs the L1 signal of 2ndIF and the L2C and L5-E5a signals of 2ndIF, independently. A branching filter separates the L2C and L5-E5a signals of 2ndIF from each other, and outputs the separated signals.

Abstract: An array receiver which reduces complexity and cost by exploiting multiuser information in signals received from a plurality of transmitting users preprocesses (40) samples of antenna signals (x1, x2 . . . , xN) from the antenna elements (22/1, . . . , 22/N) to form basis signals (yO, . . . , yM) together having fewer space-time dimensions than the space-time dimensions of the combined antenna signals. The receiver processes and combines the basis signals to produce sets of estimated received signals (z0, . . . , zM), each for a corresponding one of the users. Each of the basis signals comprises a different combination of the antenna signals. These architectures provide significant advantages over prior direct down-conversion (DDC) architectures and low intermediate-frequency (IF) architectures, particularly where two tuners are desired on the same integrated circuit. Rather than using a low-IF frequency or directly converting the desired channel frequency to DC, initial coarse tuning provided by analog coarse tuning circuitry allows for a conversion to a frequency range around DC. This coarse tuning circuitry can be implemented, for example, using a large-step local oscillator (LO) that provides a coarse tune analog mixing signal.

Abstract: A multiple output transmitter is configured for transmitting a single input data stream over two or more spatial channels using OFDM signals. The transmitter includes a commutator to select bits from the single input data stream for two or more bit streams and two or more encoders each to encode bits of one of the bit streams. The commutator operates at a bit rate and sequentially provides the selected bits of the input data stream to the encoders. A spatial bit sequencer selects groups of encoded bits from each of the encoders and assigns individual bits of a selected group at the bit-rate to block permuters in a sequential manner to distribute bits from the selected group across the block permuters. The block permuters produce interleaved blocks of bits for an associated spatial stream. The commutator assigns bits of the input bit stream to more than one encoder to allow each encoder to operate at a lower rate.

Abstract: A multi-antenna communication method capable of improving the retransmission performance in a multi-antenna transmission. In this method, firstly, the reception quality of a substream to be retransmitted is acquired (Step 401). Then, it is determined for the substream whether any transmission antennas, which satisfy a target value related to the foregoing reception quality when they are used for the retransmission, are existent among the transmission antennas that are candidate antennas to be used for there transmission (Step 405). Then, if there exist any transmission antennas satisfying the target value, a transmission antenna to which the poorest channel characteristic corresponds is selected from among those transmission antennas satisfying the target value, and the selected transmission antenna is designated as an antenna to be used for retransmitting the foregoing substream (Step 406).

  • Patent number: 7852802
Abstract: A joint scheduling and grouping technique provides uplink throughput maximization for space-division multiple access (SDMA) systems under proportional fairness constraints. In a slow-fading narrowband MIMO multiple access channel (MAC) multiple users, each equipped with multiple transmit antennas, communicate to a receiver equipped with multiple receive antennas. The users are unaware of the channel state information (CSI) whereas the receiver has perfect CSI and employs a successive group decoder (SGD). For an open-loop system, an optimum successive group decoder (OSGD) simultaneously minimizes the common outage probability and the individual outage probability of each user, over all SGDs of permissible decoding complexity. For each channel realization, the OSGD maximizes the error exponent of the decodable set of users. An adaptive SGD retains the outage optimality of the OSGD and minimizes decoding complexity. The SGD yields symmetric capacity gains commensurate with the decoding complexity allowed.

  • Patent number: 7844236
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided to enable an adaptation unit to be shared among a plurality of receivers. The adaptation unit provides compensation values to each receiver to enable each receiver to compensate for the pulse response effect experienced by that receiver. By sharing an adaptation unit among a plurality of receivers rather than having a dedicated adaptation unit for each receiver, the chip space needed is significantly reduced since the number of adaptation units that need to be implemented is significantly reduced. In addition, the fewer number of adaptation units leads to less power consumption during operation. Overall, the sharing of the adaptation unit enables greater efficiency and improved scalability to be achieved.
