Patent number: 6366568Abstract: A wireless communication system combines time and space diversity to reduce fading and simplify receiver design. In particular, a data packet which carries digital telephone traffic, is transmitted at three different times from three different antennas. The mobile subscriber receiver thus receives the same data packet at three different times from three different antennas, and uses the best data packet or combination of the data packets to reduce the effects of fading. A transfer station receives a time division multiplex multiple access (TDMA) signal from a base station carrying telephone data packet traffic to form three data packet repeats at spatially diverse antennas locations. The transfer station further modulates a code division multiple access (CDMA) system using a TDMA signal which links the mobile subscriber receiver to the transfer station. Each data packet received at the transfer station is thus retransmitted at three different times to the mobile subscriber station on a CDMA link.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1995Date of Patent: April 2, 2002Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: D. In the carrier changing apparatus, a transmitting carrier changer transmits an input forward traffic signal having traffic and overhead information and generates a forward dummy frequency assignment signal based on the forward traffic signal. A receiving carrier changer receives and outputs a reverse traffic signal having traffic and overhead information from a mobile station and generates a delayed reverse traffic signal based on a reverse dummy frequency assignment signal from the mobile station.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1999Date of Patent: September 18, 2001Assignee: Shinsegi Telecomm, Inc.Inventor: Jong-Ok Kim

Patent number: 6246868Abstract: A method and system for the reception, conversion and distribution of wireless signals over AC power lines to one or more telephone communication devices within a building, office or complex is disclosed. This invention specifically provides for the reception of PCS, cellular and/or satellite communication signals, by receiving the wireless signal and providing an interface to standard generally available telephone equipment. By making use of the power line carrier channel, this invention provides for the reception of the wireless signals upon telephone equipment that is located in the building or complex in locations remote from standard telephone wiring. Moreover, by distributing such received wireless signals over the power line a number of telephone devices can be used to receive the distributed signals.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1998Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: Phonex CorporationInventors: Scott R. Patent number: 6141538Abstract: A method and a circuit for detecting transmission of a radio frequency (RF) signal and generating control signals to regulate the operation of a RF converter remotely located from a corresponding transmitter are disclosed. The method comprises the following steps: (a) sensing the direction of a RF signal flowing in an RF transmission line, at a location proximate of the RF converter; (b) generating a low-power RF signal in response to the sensed direction; and (c) transforming the low-power RF signal into a control signal to regulate the operation of the RF converter.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1998Date of Patent: October 31, 2000Assignee: Northrop Grumman CorporationInventors: Stephen James Consolazio, David Biscan

Patent number: 6128470Abstract: A communications system and method are provided for reducing noise in a distributed antenna network. The system includes a plurality of remote antenna units with each remote antenna unit including a receiver for receiving input signals, a signal strength processor for determining whether a valid signal is present at its respective remote antenna unit and an output controller for switching off the network connection when no valid signal is present. As a result, the cumulative noise generated by uplink stages connected to the remote antenna units is reduced by switching off the network connection of remote antennas that are do not have to be connected. The communications system and method may further include an output controller for controlling the output for its respective remote antenna unit based on the comparison by the signal strength processor.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1996Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Ericsson Inc.Inventors: Arun Naidu, Jacque Huffman, Larry Eckstein
