In one embodiment, the media player device employs the use of integrated Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to exchange communication settings, media capability, and other parameters with an external device that also has integrated RFID technology. The automatic exchange of settings and other information via a proximity-based RFID data exchange allows a media player to quickly establish a secure communication link with another device via a commonly supported wireless protocol such as Ultra Wideband (UWB) or Bluetooth. Another aspect of the media player system pertains to a method of using the captured media capability of the connecting device to customize certain menu options and software parameters in the media player.

The sample is then conveyed to an analyzing means (106) to determine to which broadcast station the user is listening. The analyzing means monitors many broadcast channels. Thus, characteristics of the audio sample and samples taken from the broadcast channels can be compared to find a match. Broadcast information pertaining to the broadcast channel from which the match was found may then be reported back to the user, combined with an advertisement of a promotion, prize notification, discount offers, and other information specific for a certain radio station for example.

    Abstract: A response monitoring apparatus using a remote including an electrical circuit including a user activated input, a transmitter, and a receiver, where the electrical circuit is adapted to detect operation of the user activated input and temporarily activate the receiver. Both signal verification and time monitoring may be used to generate the signal to turn of the receiver. Different transmission and receiving wavelengths are utilized at both the remote and the base unit, and a sensory output is provided on the remote to indicate receipt and acknowledgement of the signal received from the main processor. Different activation codes are sent back to the receiver to generate different sensory outputs. A supplemental teaching method for using the two way teaching apparatus is also provided.

A web message is received, and a location tag is assigned to at least a portion of the elements contained therein. The web message is analyzed to determine if any conformance violations are contained therein. When the web message contains at least one conformance violation, a descriptive entry is generated in a partial nonconformance report for each conformance violation, wherein the descriptive entry includes the location tag assigned to the element containing the conformance violation. The web message is annotated with the location tag for each conformance violation and merging the annotated web message with the partial nonconformance report to thereby produce a full nonconformance report, and an analyzed web message is output.

The feedback data can be collected directly by posing input requests to a listener or indirectly by transparently monitoring the listener's activities. Feedback is provided back to the broadcaster over a backchannel by which data can be sent from a listener back to the broadcast station or another data gathering source. Backchannel routes can be provided by any of a host of communications technologies such as the Internet and/or wireless networks such as cellular networks, Bluetooth, 802.11 networks, and the like.
