  • Patent number: 7587010
Abstract: A pseudo-image signal producing section produces a pseudo-image signal imitating an actual image signal. An amplitude detection section detects the amplitude of the pseudo-image signal having passed through a complex filter circuit. A filter control section controls an element value control section in the complex filter circuit so as to decrease the detected amplitude. The element value control section performs an element value adjustment so that absolute element values of a pair of elements corresponding to each other in two filter circuits in the complex filter circuit increase/decrease in opposite directions.

Abstract: A configurable all-digital coherent demodulator system for spread spectrum digital communications is disclosed herein. The demodulator system includes an extended and long code demodulator (ELCD) coupled to a traffic channel demodulator (TCD) and a parameter estimator (PE). The demodulator also includes a pilot assisted correction device (PACD) that is coupled to the PE and the TCD. The ELCD provides a code-demodulated signal to the TCD and the PE. In turn, the TCD provides a demodulated output data signal to the PE. The PACD corrects the phase error of the demodulated output data based on an error estimate that is fed forward from the PE. Accumulation operations in the ELCD, TCD, and PE are all programmable. Similarly, a phase delay in the PACD is also programmable to provide synchronization with the error estimate from the PE.

  • Patent number: 7254200
Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for detecting a frequency burst in a received signal at a wireless receiver is disclosed. The invention predicts the current sample of the received signal by filtering the past samples of the received signal through an adaptive filter. A prediction error is further obtained by subtracting the actual current sample and the predicted current sample. The prediction error is then used to adapt the adaptive filter. Since the frequency burst is a substantially predictable signal, the adaptive filter adapts to accurately predict the samples of the frequency burst. Therefore, the prediction error decreases when the frequency burst is received at the receiver. The end of the frequency burst is identified using the prediction error at each discrete time instant.

  • Patent number: 6904179
Abstract: A method for implementing a filter on a signal is disclosed wherein interval membership information is computed and stored in such a manner so as to use a minimal amount of memory thereby allowing filter computation by a small number of deterministic sequence of table lookups and bit-wise logical operations. In general, the present invention involves using a non-linear filter represented as a plurality of intervals and the discrete values a sample may take. Each sample corresponds to a component in a vector. Each interval is comprised of a lower and upper vector. Each sample value is compared to the lower and upper values of the sample's associated coordinate. A table for that sample is then constructed with binary entries where a ‘1’ denotes that a sample value is within the lower and upper values of the coordinate and ‘0’ denoting otherwise. A table is built for each sample.

Abstract: A radio transmission apparatus for performing radio transmission by use of a plurality of carrier frequencies, including signal processing systems for respective channels. Each signal processing system includes a transmission signal generator that modulates transmission data with a predetermined carrier frequency signal to generate a transmission signal, an amplifier that amplifies the transmission signal, and a variable band-pass filter connected to the output of the amplifier. The outputs of the signal processing systems are combined with a radio transmission signal. At least the center frequency of a pass band of the variable band-pass filter can be changed, with the pass band determined based on the carrier frequency signal of the channel. The apparatus also includes a fault detector configured to detect a fault of each variable band-pass filter.

Abstract: A radio carrier signal is detected (20) after being converted to digital form and is filtered (22). A noise estimator (24) generates a noise estimate signal by estimating the noise in the detected signal due to atmospheric conditions and the noise due to the gain in noise figure properties of the circuitry. The output of the noise estimator is used to calculate a threshold signal (50) and another detection operation (52) determines whether the power of a signal derived from the detected signal exceeds the threshold. If the threshold is exceeded, the detected signal is passed through a signal conditioner, such as a switch (54) to an output path (56).

Abstract: A multiple carrier adaptive notch filter (ANF) module selectively filters a received wideband communication signal to eliminate narrowband interference that lies within the frequency spectrum of the wideband communication signal. To determine the presence of narrowband interference, the multiple carrier ANF module scans various known narrowband channels that lie within the frequency spectrum of the wideband communication signal and determines signal strengths for each of the narrowband channels. The signal strengths from the narrowband channels are compared to a threshold that is derived from a statistical combination of the narrowband signal strengths. Narrowband channels having signal strengths that are greater than the threshold are determined to have interference.

Abstract: When the frequency band of an intermediate frequency (IF) signal input to a filter rises due to temperature variation, the center voltage corresponding to the IF signal also rises. As a result, a difference occurs between the center voltage and a preselected reference voltage. An output current produced by converting the difference is so output as to increase a control current, thereby shifting the frequency characteristic of the filter to the higher frequency side. When the frequency band of the IF signal falls due to temperature variation, the center voltage also falls. The resulting difference between the center voltage and the reference voltage is also transformed to an output current. This output current is so output as to reduce the control current with the result that the frequency characteristic of the filter is shifted to the lower frequency side.

Abstract: A visible Stokes polarimetric imager (80) that separately and contemporaneously measures each of the four separate Stokes polarization parameters of a visible light beam reflected from a scene. The imager (80) includes a compound prism assembly (50) including five prism elements (52-58). The reflected beam from the scene is collected by an input lens (84) in the imager (80), and is directed to the prism assembly (50) at a certain location. Four separate polarimetric filters (86) and imaging devices (88) are positioned relative to the prism assembly (50) to separately receive each of the four beams (62-68) emitted from the prism assembly (50).

Abstract: A squelch circuit (111) that is contained in an communications receiver (100) estimates (403, 405) the energy of an input signal in an audio band and in a first portion of the audio band. The squelch circuit (111) then determines (407) whether the energy in the first portion of the audio band is at least a predetermined proportion of the total energy in the audio band. When the energy in the first portion of the audio band is at least a predetermined proportion of the total energy in the audio band, the squelch circuit increases (409) the audio band energy estimate to produce an updated audio energy estimate. The squelch circuit (111) can then use the updated audio energy estimate to adjust (413) a so-called squelch threshold that is subsequently used to determine (419) the presence of the radio frequency signal at an input (101) to the communications receiver (100).

Abstract: Demodulation of a CDMA downlink signal is performed by filtering correlations of the received signal with a known signature sequence. Unlike the conventional RAKE receiver, the filtering is not necessarily a FIR filter with coefficients equal to the conjugates of channel tap estimates. Instead, the present invention filters in such a way as to maximize the output signal-to-noise ratio, accounting for the fact that part of the noise comes from the same base station as the signal, so that it is colored by the same channel as the signal.
