Abstract: System and method for enabling proximity-based, temporally-limited broadcasting (one-to-many) and direct (one-to-one) hyperlocal messaging of semantically-aware content for both fixed and mobile internet-enabled, location-aware computing devices in which internet-enabled devices are able to send broadcasts or individually directed messages containing semantically aware content and where the messages are able to be received only by users of the same system within a certain proximate temporal and spatial area to the sending device. By means of assigning each content object a valid reception area and an associated time validity the platform enforces that the combination of the temporal and spatial area variables results in a hyperlocal messaging thus any particular content has the property that it can only be seen within a certain hyperlocal area. Furthermore each transmitted content object has a semantic categorisation.

Abstract: Certain embodiments herein are directed to optimized decoding of in-band on-channel (IBOC) services, such as audio, traffic, and data associated with HD Radio™. Service information, such as service boundaries for one or more segments associated with IBOC services, may be identified and formatted for transmission to a receiver device. The receiver device may use the service boundaries to select or filter segments associated only with a service of interest from a bit stream of segments associated with one or more other services, according to one embodiment.

Abstract: A broadcast response system provides, e.g., a radio broadcast listener with the ability to obtain media content such as music or speech while listening to the radio. The user can respond to items in the radio broadcast such as advertisements, fund raising drives, or interactive listener polls during the broadcast. Data such as song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored, can be transmitted using, e.g., the RBDS/RDS data stream. A reference number representing song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored can also be employed for ease of implementation. This reference number can reside in a lookup table to be accessed by broadcast response server.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sending a broadcast service in a digital broadcasting system. The method includes assigning a same Internet Protocol (IP) address for a common broadcast service when the common broadcast service is provided in at least two IP platforms, each of the at least two IP platforms providing a broadcast service to a terminal; delivering the common broadcast service using the same IP address; and delivering related information relevant to the common broadcast service.

Abstract: A content reproducing method and system for performing seamless playback of contents between devices is provided. The contents reproducing system includes a portable device which, when a short distance communication with a remote control which is configured to control an electronic device occurs during reproducing of contents, generates data required by the electronic device for reproducing the contents that are being reproduced, and which transmits the generated data to the remote control; the remote control which receives the data from the portable device and which transmits the received data to the electronic device, in conjunction with the occurrence of the short distance communication with the portable device; and the electronic device for receiving the contents from a contents provider and reproducing the contents.

The method of processing data includes receiving a broadcasting signal where mobile service data are multiplexed with main service data, extracting transmission-parameter-channel signaling information and fast-information-channel signaling information from a data group within the received mobile service data; obtaining first program table information describing virtual channel information of an ensemble and a service provided by the ensemble using the fast-information-channel signaling information, the ensemble the ensemble corresponding to a virtual channel group of the received mobile service data, obtaining information indicating that second program table information, which describes an additional service provided by the ensemble, is included in the ensemblem and parsing the second program table information according to the obtained information; and providing the additional service by using the second program table information.

Abstract: A method for specifying content of interest using a digital radio broadcast receiver is described. A digital radio broadcast signal includes first audio content and first program data, wherein the first program data includes information identifying a first item, and includes second audio content and second program data, wherein the second program data includes information identifying a second item. A user command entered at a user interface during reception of audio content is registered, indicating a user's interest in either the first or second audio content. It is determined whether there is an ambiguity in the content of interest. If there is an ambiguity, a first data structure is stored for the first audio content, and a second data structure is stored for the second audio content. The first data structure includes the information identifying the first item, and the second data structure includes the information identifying the second item.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for processing an audio signal in a dual standby mobile communication terminal are provided. The apparatus includes a first modem for supporting a first system and for outputting an interrupt signal that requests audio signal processing when a call for the first system is generated, and a second modem for supporting a second system, for receiving the interrupt signal that requests the audio signal processing from the first modem, and for performing digital signal processing of the audio signal for the first system.

An example apparatus includes an identifier card including a plurality of machine readable codes corresponding to one or more media stations and a metering device including a scanner to read a first one of the codes and a memory to record media exposure information identifying exposure of a user to a media station associated with the first one of the codes, the media information being stored in association with a timestamp corresponding to a time at which the first one of the codes was read.

Abstract: A method for devices that are near each other to exchange owner profile information. Owner profile information may contain name, occupation, interests, who they would like to meet, contact information, photo and other information normally associated with an online profile. Owner profile information is either configured on the device or the device retrieves owner profile information from known social networking or profile management online databases. Once the device enters an area where a communication method is available to reach nearby devices, the device exchanges owner profile information with other participating devices. The idea includes a method that generates a unique key that identifies both a device and the owner profile state. Upon entering an area where inter-device communication with nearby devices is possible, this key is exchanged among all participating devices in the area and subsequently owner profile information is synchronized between devices.

Abstract: A decentralized communication device is provided that facilitates optimal positioning and orientation of one or more antennas for wireless communication with external devices. The decentralized communication device includes one or more master components and one or more slave components. The master and the slave components are physically separate and communicate wirelessly. In some embodiments the slave acts as a carrier frequency translator between the master and an external wireless device, where it communicates with the external device using a first frequency and communicates with the master using a second frequency which is different from the first frequency. In another embodiment the slave has most or all the physical layer to do the digital coding, digital modulation, data framing, data formatting and data packetization for communicating with an external device, in which case digital coding and digital modulation is distributed between the master and the slave.

The mobile station device receives the incoming call information even while receiving the information concerning the multicast service.

Abstract: Systems and methods for efficiently managing the resources in a delivery system may include managing the processing power of a transcoder. By managing the input selection functions of a tuner and linking the selections with functions of a transcoder, the transcoder may process fewer instructions for a given request, resulting in the ability of the transcoder to support more streams. Modifying the inputs to the transcoder that need to be transcoded, therefore, may enable the media content delivery system to support more inputs and, thereby, more media playback devices. Managing the processing power of a transcoder can more efficiently support the delivery of media content to a media playback device, particularly where the delivery system supports multiple media playback devices.

A user terminal may receive a user terminal identifier and a sensor identifier from a user terminal, determine a group topology based on the user terminal identifier and the sensor identifier to identify a spatial relationship relative to the user terminal, receive a media signal, and identify a subsection of the media signal. The user terminal also may generate subsection information to assign a subsection of the media signal to the user terminal corresponding to the spatial relationship, and may communicate the subsection information to the user terminal.

Communications among the aircraft are guided by a Content Manager, resident at or near the airport, which maintains data representative of InFlight Entertainment Content presently stored on each aircraft and the list of scheduled InFlight Entertainment Content available on each aircraft. The Content Manager guides the exchange of InFlight Entertainment Content among the aircraft, as well as from the Content Manager to the aircraft, to automatically distribute InFlight Entertainment Content to the aircraft efficiently and timely. This process includes the ability to multicast data from the Content Manager to multiple aircraft in a single transmission, obtaining content delivery efficiency, populating multiple aircraft via a single transmission from the Content Manager.

The wireless cellular device and the content server interact through a request and reply interface, located within the wireless cellular device, based on inputs from the wireless device user. Content available for transmission from the content server is displayed and subsequently selected by the user. Separate audio and video content may be distributed to individually distinct rendering devices contiguous to and selected by the user. During or after the content is transmitted, the user may interact with the content through the wireless cellular device.

A multimedia device with various integrated systems such as an integrated FM radio may provide content-based multimedia content recording, recorded content retrieval, and playback of desired or potentially relevant contents. The multimedia device may receive multimedia content along with information identifying the received multimedia content via the various integrated systems. A segment of the received multimedia content may be recorded selectively by comparing the corresponding content information with a favorite content list. The favorite content list may be generated and updated based on the multimedia content and/or program selection data. The multimedia device may have access to additional related stored multimedia contents to retrieve and render the stored segment of the received multimedia content.

The wireless speakers/mobile terminals contain an algorithm that performs location determination relative to the controller and transmission of the location information to the controller. The controller calculates the position of the wireless speaker in relation to the ideal location of each channel of a multi-channel audio system and allocates channel selection to each of the wireless speakers/mobile terminals. The communications link may be established over WiFi, wireless telephone network, or other wireless method.

Abstract: A subscription system includes a national subscription server capable of tracking which local stations subscribe to particular radio station music formats, for example AC middays, Top 40 afternoons, morning programs, or overnight Contemporary AC. A local music scheduler can query the subscription server for a log of nationally scheduled content to fill one or more dayparts of a local broadcast schedule. The subscription system can determine where to obtain the requested log, and provide the log to the local scheduler for insertion into a particular daypart of the local clock, while leaving the remaining dayparts free for local scheduling. Trusted subscribers can also be permitted to alter portions of log of nationally scheduled items. Inserting the log of nationally scheduled items into the local clock provides local awareness of both local and national media items scheduled for broadcast.
