Abstract: A method and apparatus for extending the sleep time for a Bluetooth transceiver circuit uses a fine count signal and a base count signal during the sleep mode, followed by an interval that accounts for wake-up overhead and preparation for the next active mode. The wake-up to active mode is aligned with the timing signal that defines the communication slots in the Bluetooth communications. The extension of the sleep mode until a beginning of a communication slot in active mode is accomplished for wake-up processes that are initiated by an external trigger event as well as for wake-up processes that are initiated as a result of an internal timer. Power consumption is reduced because the circuit does not wake up to active mode before communication can be carried out in a communication slot.

  • Patent number: 9852102
Abstract: Wireless peripherals may be used by workers to facilitate communication, data entry, data visualization, safety, and security. Typically, these peripherals must communicate with a back-end system; however, direct communication is often impossible. Instead, the peripherals must communicate through an intermediary device (i.e., a base station) to reach the back-end system. To be most effective, the back-end system must be able to adapt its communication/response to a worker's identity, location, and/or peripherals. To facilitate this, the present invention embraces a peripheral hub, worn by a worker. The peripheral hub uses information regarding the worker and/or his peripherals to generate a peripheral manifest. The peripheral hub can transmit the peripheral manifest to the back-end system via the base station, and using information from the peripheral manifest, the back-end system may communicate/respond appropriately to the worker.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to reduce power consumption in user equipment (UE) that operates in a connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) mode while in communication with wireless network are disclosed. A C-DRX warm-up period before the UE enters an on-duration is adjusted dynamically based on one or more factors including a time division duplex (TDD) uplink/downlink (UL/DL) subframe configuration, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values, and Doppler shift values. The C-DRX warm-up period is adapted based on the pattern of DL subframes in the UL/DL subframe configuration by including DL subframes that best contribute to channel estimation and adaptive tracking loops based on measured SNR and Doppler shift conditions. Favorable channel conditions, such as higher SNR and lower Doppler shift, can require fewer DL subframes and consequently shorter C-DRX warm-up periods. Higher Doppler shift values indicate more rapidly varying channel conditions and require DL subframes positioned closer to the start of the on-duration.

Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a host-side surrogate tool configured to service mobile phones from a host device that is coupled to one or more peripheral cell phones. The presently-disclosed host-side surrogate tool executes on the host device concurrently with one or more software components of a vendor-compliant phone maintenance tool. In some embodiments, the concurrently-executing host-side surrogate tool may cause the vendor-compliant phone maintenance tool to provide functionality for which it was not intended. In some embodiments, it may be said that the host-side surrogate tool provides a ‘semi-virtual’ environment under which host-side vendor-compliant phone maintenance tool operates. Related methods, devices and systems are disclosed herein.

Abstract: A method and system for selective activation of a vehicle near field communication (NFC) module. The vehicle NFC module may be part of a vehicle communication and access system capable of initiating various vehicle functions, such as unlocking one or more doors of the vehicle or starting a motor or engine of the vehicle. With the method and system, a user's mobile device can be used in lieu of a key or a key fob. In situations where the battery power level of the user's mobile device is low, such that Bluetooth or the generation of an active NFC signal is unavailable, the vehicle NFC module is maintained in an active mode. In the active mode, the vehicle NFC module can initiate a connection with a passive mobile NFC target. Otherwise, depending on the battery level of the user's mobile device, the vehicle NFC module is maintained in a standard sleep mode to save power.

Abstract: A system is disclosed in which a communications device communicates via a cell operated by a base station of a communications network. The communications device identifies that transmission of data to a communications node coupled to the communications network has been triggered; determines whether an indication of radio quality in the cell meets a required radio quality criteria responsive to the transmission being triggered. The transmitting element transmits the data to the communications network after a delay if the quality of radio signals does not meet the required radio quality criteria, and without the delay if the quality of radio signals meets the required radio quality criteria.

Abstract: A smart home network system includes a number of traditional home devices having wireless communication function, a smart gateway, and a plurality of signal conversion devices. When the smart gateway wants to control a traditional home device, the smart gateway sends a cable control signal to a related signal conversion device in the area where the target traditional home device is placed. The related signal conversion device receives the cable control signals from the smart gateway, and converts the cabled control signal into a wireless control signal conforming to the wireless communication function type of the target tradition home device, then transmits the wireless control signal to the target traditional home device. Therefore, the traditional home devices with wireless communication function can be connected into the system, and be controlled by the smart gateway.

Abstract: A data communication device includes both a two-way communications component having a first receiver and transmitter, and a second receiver. The second receiver activates the two-way communications component from a dormant state upon receipt by the second receiver of a wake-up broadcast that includes a wake-up identifier of the data communication device. A method of providing information via the second receiver—which information is auxiliary to the wake-up of the two-way communications component—includes transmitting a wake-up broadcast capable of being received by the second receiver. The wake-up broadcast includes a data construct including a wake-up identifier and the auxiliary information. The wake-up identifier may or may not be a wake-up identifier of the data communication device.
