  • Patent number: 6965790
Abstract: A flip style cellular telephone includes a main housing, a microphone mounted in the main housing and a flip, pivotably mounted to the main housing by a hinge. The flip is formed with an acoustic pipe on a peripheral edge of the flip. The acoustic pipe extends from the free end to the hinged end of the flip, and includes a plurality of holes for a sound inlet at the free end of the flip. The hinge is hollow, and the acoustic pipe connects with the microphone through the hollow hinge. Sound of the user's voice is carried by the acoustic pipe from the inlet to the microphone. The acoustic pipe advantageously only minimally changes the profile and aesthetics of the telephone.

  • Patent number: 6928302
Abstract: A radio card, such as a PCMCIA card, received by an electronic device has a first interface coupling radio circuitry within the radio card to the electronic device. The radio card also has a second interface, independent of the first interface, that couples with an antenna disposed within the electronic device upon receipt of the radio card by the electronic device. The second interface may comprise a plurality of antenna contacts located along tracks of the electronic device used to aid reception of the radio card. A second and possibly external antenna may also automatically couple with the second interface upon insertion. By selective placement of the antenna contacts on the radio card, a specific one of the antennas may be selected. Otherwise, internal switching circuitry supports antenna diversity or simultaneous use of a plurality of antennas.

Raised keys formed on the elastomeric enclosure surface are marked according to their function. The marked key preferably forms a raised portion on the front of the device, that is, the front cover of the enclosure, and cause key pegs extending from the interior wall to close switches on the device's internal component assembly. Various structures formed in the elastomeric cover correspond with features of the chassis so as to tend to retain it in position.

Abstract: Multiple digital audio transformer circuits are included in a module for mounting in a chassis. These digital audio transformer circuits are comprised of a front mounted twisted pair digital audio cable connector and a rear mounted coaxial cable connector, with circuitry including baluns electrically linking the front and rear connectors to reduce the impedance of the signal and attenuate the amplitude of the signal voltage. In one embodiment, the module may also include removable attenuation pads accessible through the front face of the module to allow variation of the level of voltage attenuation. The preferred embodiment of the module bi-directional transforms 110 Ohm digital audio signals and 75 Ohm coaxial signals. If transformation of other levels of impedance are desired, modules may also allow for removal and replacement of the baluns. A digital audio transformer system including multi-circuit modules and rack mount equipment chassis is also provided.

Abstract: A cellular telephone has a processing circuit for controlling the operations of the cellular telephone, a keypad to provide input from a user, a display to provide visual output to the user, and an input/output (I/O) port electrically connected to the processing circuit. A peripheral module has a peripheral circuit for performing a peripheral function, a memory, and a connecting port for connecting the peripheral circuit and the memory to the I/O port of the cellular telephone. The memory of the peripheral module has a peripheral driver program for controlling operations of the peripheral circuit. After the connecting port of the peripheral module is electrically connected to the I/O port of the cellular telephone, the processing circuit executes the peripheral driver program so as to perform the peripheral function.
