  • Patent number: 7302255
Abstract: A method for a WLAN access point to allocate telephone numbers for use by mobile stations. The access point includes stored data indicating one or more allowed telephone numbers. When a mobile station associated with the access point and acquires an IP address, the mobiles station sends a telephone number allocation-request to the access point, seeking allocation of a particular telephone number for use by the mobile station. If the telephone requested number is one of those allowed, then the access point associates the telephone number with the mobile station. On the other hand, if the requested telephone number is not one of those allowed, then the access point provides the mobile station with a list of the available telephone numbers, to allow a user to select a desired telephone number, and the mobile station may then send a new telephone number allocation-request, seeking allocation of the selected telephone number.

In another embodiment, the content is encrypted and the encryption key is sent over the limited range channel. The content is also sent to the sink, but the sink cannot decode the content unless it has a proper copy of the decoding key. The control signal can be sent over a wireless channel, an IR channel, or an AC line. The content is sent over the Internet, either using a standard wired channel or over a wireless channel.

  • Patent number: 7155226
Abstract: A method for serving multiple mobile stations under a common mobile identification number (MIN). A service provider assigns the common MIN to multiple mobile stations and maintains a subscriber profile that associates the MIN with the electronic serial numbers (ESNs) of the mobile stations. However, the service provider allows the MIN to be associated with at most one mobile station that is arranged to respond to a MIN-based termination message. As a result, when the service provider seeks to terminate a call through signaling keyed to the MIN, only one of the mobile stations will respond (e.g., begin to ring). At the same time, all of the mobile stations having the common MIN can originate calls through signaling keyed to their MIN and ESN (since the MIN/ESN pair should uniquely identify the originating station).

  • Patent number: 7155518
Abstract: The present invention describes a network-based mobile workgroup system allowing a selected set of users from two or more mobile virtual private networks to form an extranet workgroup in a secure manner. The invention is based on the limited private address scenario, which entitles mobile nodes having private, possibly overlapping, addresses as defined in RFC 1918, while home and foreign agents have public IP addresses. Each home agent is dedicated to one mobile virtual private network (M-VPN), while a foreign agent may be shared by multiple M-VPNs. The system also entails a mobile service manager that has a public IP address and a set of mobile nodes that all have a UFQDN (user fully qualified domain name) within the overall mobile workgroup system. The main benefits, compared to existing solution for extranet workgroup creation, are that extranets can be created despite overlapping address realms. Even fine-granular workgroups within the extranet can be created with any set of users from any set of M-VPNs.

  • Patent number: 7151446
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a position isolation system comprising at least one portable cellular transmitter adapted for wireless data communication via an associated cellular communication system. Data exchange between the at least one cellular transmitter and an associated tracking station is initiated via the associated cellular communication system. The data exchange obtains additional position data representing an associated, cellular relay system through which the cellular data exchange is made, enabling isolation of the location of the portable cellular transmitter in a limited geographic region. The position isolation system also includes a secondary transmission system, associated with the portable transmitter, that is adapted for outputting information representing secondary location data. The secondary location data has a positioning resolution within that of the limited geographic region.

Abstract: A cellular telephone can be integrated in a base unit, and thereby used in addition to, or in place of a land line. Viewed from another perspective, a cellular phone or other communication device can be integrated with a communication network by at least temporarily coupling it to another cellular phone or communication device that was previously integrated with the communication network. Such a unit may integrate itself when coupled to a previously integrated phone by obtaining a MIN and ESN from the previously integrated phone. Such a unit may also provide access to non-integration information contained in the previously integrated phone, such as data related to contacts, tasks, and appointments.

Abstract: A system and method for mobile number portability service in an asynchronous mobile communication network is provided. The system stores changes in mobile service providers and an address of a Network Provider Database (NPDB) in the service network which is presently providing the mobile subscriber with mobile service. By performing a mobile number portability inquiry only for a mobile subscriber who has changed his mobile service provider can be processed by the NPDB in the service network presently providing the mobile subscriber with mobile service, thus reducing the number of NPDBs required and improving system performance.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for performing registration on behalf of a session associated with a mobile node are disclosed. The mobile node composes a registration request including a NAI identifying a userID and a sub-NAI that uniquely identifies a session associated with the NAI. The mobile node then sends the registration request. When the Home Agent authenticates the mobile node, the Home Agent returns an IP address associated with the session. The NAI and sub-NAI may then be mapped to this IP address in a mobility binding table associated with the Home Agent as well as a visitor table associated with the Foreign Agent to which the mobile node has roamed.

  • Patent number: 7127051
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing advanced telephony services to telephone numbers served by telecommunications networks lacking the infrastructure to provide these advanced services directly are described. In an embodiment of the present invention, a service-providing network, which has the capability of providing advanced telephony services to a service subscriber for calls that traverse it, provides advanced telephony services to calls directed to a telephony device on a native transport network. The native transport network is a network that naturally carries a subscriber's calls but does not have the capabilities required to provide advanced services. In one embodiment, the system uses a virtual number to map a service in the service-provider network with a device in the native transport network.

  • Patent number: 7127057
Abstract: Methods and systems for distributing and accessing large amounts of signaling message processing data in a signaling message processing node are disclosed. More particularly, a large amount of signaling message processing data, such as number portability translation data, may be segmented and distributed across multiple processing modules. For example, subscriber portability data contained in a large national local number portability (LNP) database is divided or segmented according to NPA-NXX ranges or geographic regions, and LNP data associated with each region or segment is stored on a different database service module (DSM) within the message processing system. A signaling message requiring number portability processing is received by a communication module. The communication module directs the message a DSM that contains the LNP data segment necessary to process the message.

  • Patent number: 7120451
Abstract: When a subscriber record is moved from a first HLR to a second HLR that utilizes a different protocol, the wireless communication system sends two queries for location information for the mobile station, one to the first HLR and one to the second HLR, simultaneously. Two responses are received, one from each of the HLRs. The valid response is recorded in a separate table for future use. The invalid response is discarded. The next time a call comes in for the mobile station, the table is traversed to determine if the HLR has been updated for the mobile station. If so, the location request is sent only to the system in the table. If the table does not include information for the called mobile station, simultaneous queries are sent to the first and second HLRs.
