  • Patent number: 6119001
Abstract: An automatic activation of a roamer mobile station is implemented in a visited network home location register. Responsive to a registration attempt by the roamer mobile station a default subscriber profile is defined, and a temporary subscriber (directory) number is assigned. Arrangements are also made to insure subscriber payment for any network provided wireless telephone services. Following activation of the roamer mobile station, the default subscriber profile is downloaded for use in providing service. A timer is also started and thereafter monitored for expiration. If the timer expires before the occurrence of a wireless telephone service traffic event involving the roamer mobile station, automatic deactivation of the roamer in the home location register is implemented. In this regard, the default subscriber profile is deleted and the temporary subscriber (directory) number is returned. The billing account for any network provided wireless telephone services is also closed.

  • Patent number: 6101396
Abstract: A wireless terminal is dynamically placed into a call coverage group based on the auxiliary unit with which the wireless terminal is in communication. A wireless terminal can be in a plurality of call coverage groups and be assigned a relative position in each of these call coverage groups based on the auxiliary unit with which the wireless terminal is in communication. The call coverage groups are dynamic, and a wireless terminal will assume a different position within the call coverage group based on whether higher positions within the call coverage group assigned to other auxiliary units have wireless terminals in communication with these other auxiliary units. The wireless terminals of a call coverage group dynamically establish their position by communicating and identifying the other active wireless terminals and the auxiliary units to which these other wireless terminals are assigned with no involvement of the wireless switching system controlling the wireless terminals.

  • Patent number: 6078822
Abstract: A cordless telephone system including a independent base station and a dual purpose mobile station which enables the mobile station to respond to an incoming call from a public base station while a first phone call is being conducted by the mobile station through the independent base station. During this operation, the first phone call is either put on hold or disconnected thus enabling the mobile station to shift to the call from the public base station. The independent base station is provided with a public reception antenna, a reception radio circuit, a mobile station reception channel CODEC, a public reception control section, and a public reception interface, enabling it to receive a call signal from the public base station intended for the dual purpose mobile station. Due to this constitution, the independent base station receives the call signal from the public base station intended for the dual purpose mobile station during the first phone call.

  • Patent number: 6044267
Abstract: A method for routing a call to a cordless/cellular telephone accessible over the landline network via a home cordless base station according to a LL#, and acessible over a cellular network according to a mobile identification number (MIN). Upon receiving a call to a cordless/cellular user's land-line telephone number (LL#) or to the corresponding MIN, the landline network ascertains whether the cordless/cellular telephone is within communication range of its home cordless base station. The telephone call is then routed to the home cordless base station only if the CCT is within communication range of the cordless base station. If the CCT is not within range of the home cordless base station, the call is forwarded by the land-line telephone network to the cellular network with the MIN in order to complete a cellular call to the CCT.

  • Patent number: 6032057
Abstract: The coverage area of the base station of a cellular radio system is expanded in a very simple and easily implementable way by utilizing the cabling present in a community antenna system, so that the community antenna system and a repeater connected thereto are used for transmitting telecommunication signals between the base station and a subscriber unit served by the system. The base station can also transmit on the control channel to the repeater information as to which radio channel and which power level the repeater should at each time repeat the signals it receives, to ensure that the signals intended for a specific subscriber unit are repeated on a traffic channel and power level suitable for the purpose. The base station can reduce the power level used by the repeater to such a level that a plurality of repeaters utilizing the same traffic channel can be placed close to one another without disturbing one another.

  • Patent number: 6018666
Abstract: Limiting the base stations to which a wireless terminal will attempt to establish communication. In a first and second embodiment this is done by the wireless switching system or another system having the capability of storing within each individual wireless terminal a list of base stations that can be utilized by that wireless terminal. When a wireless terminal first registers on the wireless switching system, the wireless switching system would be responsive to the identification code of the wireless terminal to transmit a list of base stations that can be utilized by the wireless terminal to the wireless terminal. The wireless terminal then stores that list for future use. In a third embodiment, each tenant would be assigned a group number. Each of the base stations would periodically transmit the numbers of the groups that could access the base station. A wireless terminal monitors these group numbers before attempting to register on a base station.

Abstract: The essential functions and characteristics of a telecommunications system with cordless terminals are established by the known DECT standard. On the one hand, the invention has the task of reducing the cost of ADPCM/PCM transcoders in DECT or DECT-like systems, and on the other to improve the handover characteristics, by making an interruption-free channel changeover, even during a change of cell bundles. To that effect, all DECT interface circuits (9, 10) are jointly controlled by a central processing unit (MOB CPU) assigned only to these DECT interface circuits (9, 10). The otherwise usual ADPCM/PCM transcoders have been omitted in the DECT interface circuits (9, 10), and are now assigned to the central processing unit (MOB CPU), while their number can be reduced in comparison to known solutions. The central processing unit (MOB CPU) also takes over the switching functions for the channels offered by the DECT interface circuits (9, 10).
