The method includes receiving an input torque, dividing the input torque between a first load path receiving a first portion of the input torque, and a second load path receiving a second portion of the input torque. A first lubricant pump of the aircraft engine is driven via the first load path using the first portion of the input torque. A second lubricant pump of the aircraft engine is driven via the second load path using the second portion of the input torque. When a malfunction of the second lubricant pump occurs, the method includes ceasing to drive the first lubricant pump and the second lubricant pump using the input torque.

The clutch is loaded independent of an engagement of the limiter with the drive unit. A reaction force between a resilient element in the clutch and the vessel preloads the clutch. The clutch is arranged to slip at a specified torque value. The resilient element is arranged to preload the clutch such that the clutch remains fully engaged up to the specified torque value. In some aspects, the limiter includes a drive unit connection plate and the clutch is disposed between the connection plate and the vessel. In some aspects, the vessel includes a housing connected to the connection plate and the clutch is disposed between the housing and the damper assembly.

    Abstract: A coupling device has a pulley that receives rotational torque from an engine. The torque is transmitted to a shaft through a hub and a one-way clutch. A torque limiter is screwed on the shaft to fasten the inner ring of the one-way clutch onto the shaft. The torque limiter has a breakable portion. The torque is directly transmitted from the inner ring to the shaft when the torque is normal. If the torque exceeds the tightening torque of the torque limiter, the inner ring begins to slide and rotate, and drives the torque limiter in a tightening direction. As the torque limiter is tightened additionally, the tensile stress on the breakable portion is increased. Then, the breakable portion breaks and is separated in axial direction so that the coupling device disconnects torque transmission.

    Abstract: A combined variable speed viscous coupling and bearing includes a rolling element bearing that supports a driven member for relative rotation on a powered member. A viscous grease interposed and sealed with respect to the rolling elements of the bearing acts as a variable speed drive, frictionally retarding the rolling of the rolling elements when the powered member turns below a certain critical speed, thus causing the driven member to turn with the powered member in a one-to-one relationship. Above the predetermined critical speed, the rolling elements roll sufficiently through the viscous material to allow the powered member to overrun the driven member. In a preferred embodiment, the invention is disclosed as a variable speed drive for the cooling fan of a vehicle alternator.
