Abstract: A constant-velocity joint can have three pieces: a yoke, a first adaptor, and a second adaptor. Grooves on opposite sides of the yoke can receive forks of the adaptors and be perpendicular to one another. The yoke can have a guide surface within each groove so that a matching following surface on the fork of the adaptor can engage the guide surface to guide the movement of the fork within the groove. The adaptors may pivot within the grooves such that surfaces of flanks of the forks remain engaged or provide a consistent amount of surface contact with flanks of the groove throughout the pivot of the forks. Torque can be transferred through the engaged flanks as the joint is used to convert eccentric rotation to concentric rotation.

The Oldham ring is of cast aluminum alloy and has a pair of projections (a) serving to engage with a pair of guide grooves formed in a surface of the swivel scroll adjacent to a crankshaft. Sliding surfaces of the projections which are to be brought into contact with inner surfaces of the guide grooves are each covered with a metal sheet made of a metal which is different from aluminum and aluminum alloys. It is recommended that the metal sheet has the following thickness (t): t=0.5-2.5 mm, T/20.ltoreq.t.ltoreq.T/4 (where, T represents the widthwise dimension of the projection in the circumferential direction of the Oldham ring). The metal sheet is united with the Oldham ring by insert casting.

Abstract: Projections (16, 18) formed on shafts (10, 12) and received in grooves (20a, 20b) of an intermediate disk (14) to form an Oldham coupling, in general, perform a small sliding movement relative to the intermediate disk (14), and thus the projections (16, 18) and the side surfaces of the grooves (20a, 20b) are abraded to cause backlash to appear between the corresponding surfaces. This backlash makes an accurate transmission of the rotation of one shaft to the other impossible.

Abstract: The Oldam-ring of the rotational force transmitting mechanism of a fluid compressor is engaged with the rectangular section formed on the base portion of the main shaft of the rotary rod in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the main shaft to achieve an easy assembling of the Oldam-ring to the rectangular section. If the fluid compressor employs a thrust force canceling system wherein the thrust force acting on the rotary rod from the discharge side toward the suction side of a cylinder is canceled by a counter thrust force, the diameter of the main shaft located at the suction side is increased compared with that of the conventional fluid compressor to increase the counter thrust force acting on the edge surface of the main shaft whereby the thrust force can be effectively canceled.

  • Patent number: 4683763
Abstract: A feed-through apparatus for use in rotating a shaft which typically forms part of a system. The apparatus includes a feed-through shaft which is to be rotated and structure for rotatably mounting the shaft on a panel or wall. A cap rotatably coupled to the mount has a driver coupled with it, the driver including a stub shaft having bearings at one end thereof received within a groove of an end face of the driven shaft. The driver includes a cylindrical member mounted by a bearing in the inner periphery of the cap, such inner periphery being provided with a beveled surface so that the cylindrical member and the stub shaft wobble when the cap is rotated. When the bearings on the outer end of the stub wobble, they move along a circular path surrounding the central axis of the driven shaft, causing the driven shaft to rotate in the direction of movement of the bearings on the driver.
