Abstract: An electronic power steering apparatus according to the present invention uses hypoid gears having a larger gear on a steering assisting motor side and a smaller gear on a pinion shaft side as a transmission device for transmitting a rotational force of the motor to the pinion shaft or a column shaft, thereby reducing a shaft-to-shaft distance required between the motor and the pinion shaft. Further, rack teeth, which have a pressure angle that reduces toward both of the ends of a moving stroke of a rack shaft, are formed on the rack shaft that engages the pinion gear so that an insufficient steering assisting force is supplemented at the stroke ends, that is, at a large steering range; thus, it is possible to miniaturize the motor. Therefore, it becomes possible to reduce a space occupied by the motor on the periphery of the column shaft or the pinion shaft, and consequently to allow easy installation inside the automobile room or the engine room.

  • Patent number: 4338798
Abstract: Apparatus for limiting the amount of torque to a driven shaft having a tool for applying power to a workpiece is continuously adjustable throughout a predetermined range. A housing defines a cylindrical chamber open at one end having an adjustable plate disposed therein. First and second shafts enter the housing through opposite ends and have first and second disks attached thereto within the housing. Disks are frictionally coupled by a force generated by a spring disposed about the first shaft between the adjustable plate and the first disk. When the preselected limit of torque is exceeded the disks slip with respect to one another thus, limiting the amount of torque delivered by the apparatus. Adjustment of the plate selectively increases or decreases the compression of the spring and thus, alters the maximal amount of torque that can be delivered. An alternative embodiment is disclosed for incorporating the apparatus within the housing of a power tool such as a drill motor.

Abstract: An improved clutch assembly for use between a propeller and a propeller drive shaft. A bushing preferably in the form of an internally splined tube is adapted to fit over the splined output end of a drive shaft. One or more longitudinally raised ridges extend along a portion of the tube exterior. At least one radial flange extends at least partially around the tube exterior, spaced from one end of the tube. At least one elastomeric cushion, having the configuration of a radial tube section, engages the exterior wall of the tube between ridges. The diameter of this assembly is such as to allow insertion into a propeller bore with a tight friction fit between the cushion and the interior wall of the bore.

  • Patent number: 4330029
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel mounting structure for a rotatable heat exchanger, sometimes known as a heat recovery wheel. The mounting structure includes a hub portion on at least one side of the wheel and axially aligned therewith with at least three radially movable shoes situated within the bore of the wheel and coupled to the hub portion. A torsion bar is connected to the hub which applies equal radial forces to each of the shoes whereby the shoes are biased against the wheel at the periphery of the bore and equally displaced from the axis of the wheel. The aforementioned arrangement provides a mounting which is self centering and yet which permits differential radial expansion of a metal hub with respect to a ceramic wheel.
