Abstract: A mechanism for covering and uncovering a cold frame includes a starting base and a spaced-apart terminal base, a frame, and a cover deployable over the frame starting at the starting base and ending at the terminal base. The cover is wrapped from its midline around a cover shaft rotated by a first drive motor, as cables, attached to the leading edge of the cover, pull it over the frame. Those cables are simultaneously winding themselves around a cable shaft rotated by a second drive motor so that cover remains tight between the cable shaft and the cover shaft. The other end of the cables is secured to the starting base while the trailing edge of the cover is secured to the terminal base. Torque arms extend from the first and second drive motors and their distal ends are pivotally connected.

Abstract: A grow light housing with passive cooling, including a shell having a reflective interior surface, a lower opening for directing light downwardly onto plants, and at least one ventilation opening in an upper portion. A grow light socket is coupled to the housing so as to position a grow light directly below the ventilation opening, and a reflective baffle is interposed between the ventilation opening and the grow light bulb. The baffle is spaced apart from the ventilation opening and housing interior surface so as to form a gap through which heated air may escape. The reflective baffle is configured in such a way that incident light is reflected away from the ventilation opening, into the housing interior space and either directly out the housing opening or indirectly out the housing opening after first reflecting off the reflective interior surface of the housing shell.

Abstract: A grow box made from a box or cooler with a light enclosure and ventilation ducts for temperature regulation and circulation of air, and a timer for control of the light source. The grow box is sturdy, transportable, and stackable. A method for creating the grow box is included.

Abstract: A cold frame with at least one light-permeable roof element which is arranged on the upper side of the cold frame. The roof element has an outer frame which bears a fine-mesh, light- and air-permeable lattice element which spans the interior of the cold frame. The outer frame bears, if appropriate, a window element which is arranged above the lattice element and covers the lattice element.

Abstract: A plant protection device having a ventilation opening shield that may be protectedly positioned between a housing and a mounting socket. A temperature sensitive actuator may be provided in the socket and the shield may pivotally move about the socket between a position impeding airflow through the ventilation opening and a position facilitating airflow through the ventilation opening. Various embodiments and features are disclosed including a reinforced housing, multi-part housing construction, and a shield mounting structure provided through the shield, among other features.
