Patent number: 10995895Abstract: A masking plug and method are provided for masking a hole in a part during a finishing operation. The masking plug includes an elongated shaft having a first end terminating at a terminal surface and a second end. An outer surface of the shaft has external threads adjacent the first end thereof adapted for receipt in the hole. An enlarged body has a first end operatively connected to the shaft and a second operatively connected to a head. The diameter of the body is greater than the diameter of the shaft. The head has a polygonal configuration and is adapted for forming a mating relationship with a tool. The terminal surface of the shaft includes a hollow cavity formed therein which is configured to urge the outer surface of shaft radially outward in response to a pressure buildup in the cavity during the finishing operation so as to maintain the shaft in hole.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2017Date of Patent: May 4, 2021Assignee: Custom Fabricating & SuppliesInventors: Henry Asik, Brian Asik

Patent number: 7896599Abstract: A composite metal male fastener is provided. The metal fastener includes an elongate hollow shell made of metal. The shell includes a threaded exterior for insertion or retraction from the threads of a female fastener. In addition, the shell element includes a central bore and a radially extending flange. The male fastener further includes a core element made of a composite material including plastic, fiberglass or carbon fiber or the like. The core element fills the shell's central bore and extends from the shell to encapsulate the shell's flange to form a male fastener head.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2008Date of Patent: March 1, 2011Inventors: Douglas Stephen, Robert Stephen

Patent number: 7189251Abstract: The invention relates to a tissue anchor which is an open helix of biocompatible material having a slope of from 0.5 to 10 turns per centimeter, a length from 3 to 75 millimeters, a diameter of from 1.5 to 11 millimeters, and an aspect ratio of from about 3 to about 5 to 1. The anchor can have a head which is capable of securing or clamping tissue together, such as holding a suture to secure a ligament or tendon to bone. The anchor can also have a head which causes an inward, compressive loading for use in fastening bone to bone, orthopedic plates to bone, or cartilage to bone. The head may be an integral member and may include a self-reinforcing wedge which joins the helix to the head. Further, the elongate member, or filament that forms the helix may have a tapering diameter along its length.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2003Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Orthohelix Surgical Designs, Inc.Inventor: David B. Patent number: 6247884Abstract: A new plug is formed with a diametrical slot in the interior threaded end and an axial through hole. A spring unit is positioned in the through hole and slot. The spring unit is formed with a diametral slot that extends from the interior end of the plug well down into the post portion of the spring unit and therefore into the through hole. The spring unit is assembled to the plug prior to heat treatment of the spring unit. Fixturing of the spring unit determines the spring rate of the unit and, in combination with the fit of the spring unit in the slot and through hole, the amount of live contact of the unit with the threads of the hole into which the plug is to be threaded. The holding torque of the plug is thereby determined. The new plug eliminates the present need for external capture devices or stainless steel wires through holes in the plug exterior in aircraft applications.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2000Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: Moeller Manufacturing Co.Inventor: Kurt K. Patent number: 6024646Abstract: A swaged male element of a pipe connection of the type having a frusto-conical sealing surface adjacent to but separate from the load threads. The swaging is effected prior to final machining of the end of the pin and is followed by a cutting operation to remove surplus material from the interior surface of the pin. The swaging extends from the distal end of the pin proximally to include at least the distal end of the effective sealing surface, and preferably extends proximally to a point coinciding generally with the terminating proximal portion of the effective sealing area of the pin.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1997Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: IPSCO Enterprises Inc.Inventors: John F.
