Patent number: 11235220Abstract: The nature of the invention enables the same tennis backboard to be used in any of the three standard backboard positions; vertical, sloped, or curved. Furthermore, the design allows for the angle of slope, and the curvature of the board, to be made at the location where the board is mounted. The material used is a paper/resin composite product that is durable, dense, flexible, and not affected by adverse weather conditions. The invention incorporates flex technology allowing the board to flex upon impact from a tennis ball. The same framework can be used to mount the backboard to an existing chain-link fence, concrete wall, brick wall, stud wall, portable platform, or other sturdy structure.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2019Date of Patent: February 1, 2022Inventor: Merrill Washburn

Patent number: 10507372Abstract: A sports ball rebounder net has a rebound surface positioned and angled to receive balls and to return or propel those projected balls back to the athlete. The net frame has brackets extending from the rear of each vertical post. The brackets each have an arcuate hole at a first radial distance from a center of rotation, and a series of spaced apart holes along an arc located at a second distance from the center of rotation. One arm of the back support is connected to the first bracket and a second arm connected to the second bracket, each at the respective centers of rotation. The angular position of the back support in respect of the net frame is adjusted by pulling a cord that is attached at each end to a respective plunger associated with each arm of the back support, each of which has a pin that is retracted upon pulling the cord. The respective pins of the plungers mate with one of each series of holes through the bracket attached to the net frame.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2018Date of Patent: December 17, 2019Assignee: Rukket, LLCInventor: Ryan L. Patent number: 8016700Abstract: The invention provides a new tennis backboard design. The backboard includes a firm backing layer underlying a soft deadening layer. The rebound of a tennis ball from the backboard is reduced as compared to rebound from a rigid hard-surface backboard. This allows a player to stand fairly close to the backboard, which reduces misses. The player can stand fairly close and hit balls hard against the backboard. Because the rebound is reduced, the ball simply bounces back softly and easily to the player, allowing the player to hit hard again from a fairly short distance. Thus, long rallies without missing are easily achieved. Since the bounce is reduced, the player can stand closer to the backboard, and therefore the backboard can be smaller than conventional backboards without the player missing the backboard. This allows the backboard to be light, portable, and easily stored.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2008Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Inventors: Hugh McTavish, Johannes N. Gaston, Douglas J. VanOrnum, Brian D. Gale, Steven A. Beaudry

The apparatus includes a first side deflector, shaped to cover part of the goal opening, and connected to one of the pair of posts by a first connector means adapted to permit the first side deflector to rotate about the post from a first closed position in front of the goal opening to one or more open positions to the outside of said post. A second side deflector, shaped to cover the remaining part of the goal opening, is connected to the other of said pair of posts by second connector means adapted to permit the second side deflector to rotate about the post from a first closed position in front of the goal opening to one or more open positions to the outside of said post.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 13, 2007Publication date: March 18, 2010Applicant: Target Master Net Inc.Inventors: Edward Plut, Diana Deley

Patent number: 7677993Abstract: The invention provides a new tennis backboard design. This allows the backboard to be light, portable, and easily stored.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2006Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Assignee: StrokeMaster Backboard, LLCInventor: Hugh McTavish

Publication number: 20090209372Abstract: An automated torsion driven sports goal practice backstop which appends to any size of sports goal and may remain in place, if desired, at the conclusion of practice and during games. The sports goal practice backstop utilizes a torsioning system and flexible net mechanism in order to provide for easy installation and subsequent tension thereof. During practice, the sports goal backstop of the present invention provides a suitable backstop to stop most balls from traveling beyond the goal. At the conclusion of practice, the sports goal backstop of the present invention is mechanically foldable via automation of rotating handles and thus, the instant system need not be removed at the conclusion of practice. Rather, the sports goal backstop of the present invention may remain in position, out of sight, in its folded configuration during a game without interfering with normal play.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2008Publication date: August 20, 2009Inventor: Michael Rigoli

Patent number: 7543821Abstract: A ball returner for a sports goal includes a triangular frame substantially framing an elastic material, which may be taughtly extended there across. The frame may include two or three sides coupled together. Coupled to one corner of the frame is at least one stand portion extending at an angle thereto, such that, when the frame is placed on a flat surface, the corner has a higher elevation than the other two corners. All of the stand portions may be extendable for varying the angle of the corner relative to the flat surface. The ball returner may or may not be coupled to the sports goal and is lightweight and transportable.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2007Date of Patent: June 9, 2009Assignee: Warrior Sports, Inc.Inventors: Matthew Winningham, Craig Herman
