  • Patent number: 6227990
Abstract: A racket stringing machine consists of a racket cradle assembly, to lock a racket frame in place, and a tension head assembly to grip and apply tension to the string during the stringing or restringing process. During the process an electronically controlled, motor-driven assembly holds the loose end of the string and applies tension as it guides it in its motion away from the racket frame. Electronics compare at each instant the tension on the string to a previously dialed-in one and when both are equal the carriage halts.

  • Patent number: 6162139
Abstract: A string tensioning device for a racquet stringing machine. The device includes a stallable electric motor for providing torque to a tensioning shaft and an electric control circuit for regulating the torque provided by the motor. A manual adjustor is provided to adjust the torque to a preselected desired torque. A gripper is located on the tensioning shaft for gripping the string to be tensioned. In use the motor stalls at a preselected torque permitting the string to be tensioned a predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 6093121
Abstract: A clamp for stringing rackets having conventional and fan pattern designs is provided. The clamp has a body, a support shaft and a base. The body has two members which cooperate to clamp a string therebetween. The body is pivotably received on the support shaft and may swivel about the shaft in both open and closed positions. The base is slidably received on a glide bar of a racket stringing apparatus and supports the shaft in a perpendicular orientation with respect to the glide bar.

  • Patent number: 5846146
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for repairing or replacing a broken string on a racket. The device comprises a first string gripping member for gripping a portion of a broken or replacement string outside the frame of a racket; a second string gripping member for gripping a portion of the broken or replacement string inside the frame of the racket; a connector for connecting the first and second string gripping members; and a reaction member, in the form of a plate, located on the connector between the first and second string gripping members. The reaction member is arranged to bear against the frame of the racket and, together with the first string gripping member, to apply a tension to the string, and together with the second string gripping member, to hold the string under tension so as to allow the string to be connected to the frame of the racket in a tensioned state.

  • Patent number: 5820500
Abstract: A racquet stringing machine which accomplishes tensioning of the strings of a racquet by the use of one or more combination tensioning and holding clamp units which operate directly on the string inside the racquet. The present invention also provides fixed, non-rotating racquet head frame holding fixture holds the racquet stationary throughout the stringing process. The racquet is supported against distortion by compressive mounts disposed along the outer perimeter of the racquet head frame only. The racquet stringing machine further includes an offset pedestal which stabilizes the machine by counterweight effect while keeping the floor beneath the racquet holding fixture free of obstruction.
