  • Publication number: 20030148840
Abstract: A cog belt pulley system includes cog belt pulleys (10a to 10c) each with at least one flange (15 to 17) protruding in the radial direction beyond the toothed circumferential surface (11) and extending in the circumferential direction to limit slipping of the belt (20, 30, 40) at right angles to the circumferential direction of the pulleys (10a to 10c). Said flange is provided only as a segment over a limited part of the circumferential surface in the circumferential direction of the pulleys. A belt is mounted on two pulleys by the pulleys being rotated into a position in which the particular flange segments face each other. In this position the belt can be pushed onto the pulleys without colliding with the flange segments.

Abstract: A chamfered sprocket assembly for facilitating the shifting of a drive chain from a larger sprocket to a smaller sprocket is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the chamfered sprocket assembly includes a sprocket having a plurality of chamfered portions on a side facing a smaller sprocket, each chamfered portion located between a pair of toothlike projections located on the rim of the sprocket body. The chamfered portions preferably include a crest which tapers toward a first edge and a second edge of the chamfer portion, respectively. The crest is preferably offset from the center of the chamfer portion toward the driving direction of the sprocket assembly. To further facilitate the shifting of the drive chain, the sprocket preferably includes a rounded shoulder to guide the movement of the drive chain. Finally, the friction between the toothlike projections and the drive chain is reduced by polishing the toothlike projections.

  • Patent number: 6413180
Abstract: A power transmitting mechanism includes a first silent chain trained around teeth of a first driving sprocket and a teeth of first driven sprocket, and a second silent chain trained around teeth of a second driving sprocket and teeth of a second driven sprocket. The first and second driving sprockets are mounted in parallel relationship on a single drive shaft, and the teeth of the first driving sprocket are offset from the teeth of the second driving sprocket by one-half pitch. The pitch of the driving sprockets is a random pitch which varies in a random pattern along the circumference of the sprockets. The silent chains have a single pitch. By thus phasing the two driving sprocket, periodic meshing impact sounds emitted from the respective silent chains are canceled out or offset each other. The periodicity of the meshing impact sound is agitated by the random tooth pitch of the driving sprockets to such an extent that resonance sound is sufficiently reduced.

Abstract: Sprocket drive mechanisms formed of metal lamina engage belt drive surfaces formed in a modular plastic conveyor belt. The lamina are positioned axially along a rotary drive shaft to mate with drive surfaces extending across the width of the belt. Belt wear from the metal sprocket lamina is reduced by floating at least one lamina axially along the drive shaft to conform with belt positioning under loading and other dynamic conditions. Spacers for axially separating the lamina for registration with belt drive surfaces when mounting the belt on the sprocket drive may be removed after registration, thereby keeping the metal drive assembly lighter with less inertia to further reduce wear. Alternatively light weight laminar spacers disposed axially along the shaft are interlocked to the sprocket lamina to maintain a fixed spacing while permitting the assembly and/or separate sprocket lamina to float axially on the shaft.

Abstract: A belt tensioning device for a belt driven bicycle that includes a tension plate having triangular positioned orifices. The plate is pivotally mounted to the frame with one of the orifices. Rollers are mounted in the other two orifices and the drive belt passes between the roller. When the belt tightens against one of the rollers, it pivots the tension plate, forcing the other roller into the belt and preventing any slack from occurring.

  • Patent number: 5074827
Abstract: A reversible sprocket assembly for a chain and sprocket drive system includes a sprocket body having an inner hub portion with a central bore and an outer sprocket drive unit including teeth for engaging a drive chain. A coupling, such as mating splines, is provided along the bore for coupling the sprocket in driving relationship with the drive shaft. The coupling is reversible so that the bore of the hub may be received on the shaft with either end first. A counterbore is provided at each end of the hub adjacent the coupling so as to form end portions of the bore. When mounted on the shaft, one counterbore mates with a first shoulder on the shaft. A removable annular spacer forms a second shoulder to mate with the other counterbore. In this way, the sprocket body is securely supported in driving relationship on the shaft. By reversing the sprocket drive unit as a whole, the trailing faces of the teeth become the new drive faces and the life of the sprocket assembly is essentially doubled.

  • Patent number: 5012263
Abstract: The invention is directed to a positively-guided belt drive wherein the drive of the belt by supporting surfaces is decoupled from the drive of the belt via projections. This decoupling is effected with the aid of ball bearings. In a belt drive of this kind, the forces acting on the inner side of the belt are greatly reduced. This leads to reduced wear and to a longer service life. The rate of malfunctions of focal plane shutters of photogrammetric cameras is significantly reduced by this belt drive.
