With Actuator Driven By Electrical Or Fluid Motor Patents (Class 474/18)
  • Patent number: 4305488
Abstract: A vehicle accessory drive assembly incorporates a speed-increasing planetary gear set with an engine-driven carrier input. A flywheel output is engaged with the ring gear through an overrunning clutch. A shiftable power train couples the output side of the vehicle transmission with the sun gear so that normally the output speed range is compressed relative to the input speed range. Accessory speeds are increased when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is running at idle. Changing accessory torque demands are satisfied smoothly. Upon application of the vehicle braking system, the power train is shifted so that the flywheel overruns the ring gear. Some of the energy which would be lost in the braking effort or during engine deceleration is absorbed by the flywheel, and is used to help drive the accessories.

  • Patent number: 4292031
Abstract: An infinitely variable cone-pulley transmission of the type including two pairs of cone pulley sheaves, each mounted on a respective shaft, a transmission member circulating between the pairs of pulley sheaves, a pressure cylinder at least partly defined by one pulley sheave of each pair and including a piston, a control valve supplying hydraulic pressure medium to each cylinder chamber, with the pressure being distributed between the two cylinder chambers in order to control the transmission ratio between the pulley sheave pairs, and a torque sensor associated with one of the shafts and active to control the hydraulic pressure in one of the chambers as a function of the torque on that one of the shafts, is supplemented by a two-part presser device which responds to the torque on one of the shafts in order to press one of the pulley sheaves on that shaft against the transmission member with a force which is a function of that torque.

  • Patent number: 4261213
Abstract: A friction transmission having at least one friction disc formed as a rotating presser cylinder of a piston firmly connected with the associated shaft, with load-dependent hydraulic generation of the pressing forces, where at least on one transmission shaft a sensor is arranged for the torque transmitted there. The sensor, due to a torque-dependent movement of at least two valve parts in relation to one another, generates a torque-dependent hydraulic pressure and the necessary load-dependent hydraulic pressing force is generated exclusively by this pressure.

  • Patent number: 4246807
Abstract: A drive motor that may be an internal combustion engine or an electric motor is operated at substantially constant speed or, in the case of an internal combustion engine, at one of two substantially constant speeds. The speed of travel of the vehicle under various load conditions is varied by a drive control pedal operating a transducer that furnishes one input to a signal processor while a torque transducer in the engine drive shaft provides a second input to the processor. The processor output controls the positioning device that determines the transmission ratio of a continuously variable belt drive transmission by pressing together the halves of one pulley of the belt drive while separating the halves of the other pulley, varying their effective diameter with respect to the wedge-shaped belt in opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 4241618
Abstract: A power transmission adapted to be connected between a prime mover and a driven means which comprises a variable pulley drive comprising drive and driven pulleys connected by a belt, each having at least one flange axially movable with respect to the other. The pulleys continuously rotate when the prime mover is operational. The output of the prime mover is directly connected to the pulley drive. The prime mover may be an automobile engine, the driven means may include the wheels of an automobile. A speed-responsive friction starting device with means to shift between neutral, forward and reverse is connected between the driven pulley and the driven means. Shifting of a dry, i.e, non-lubricated, belt on the pulleys when the speed ratio is changing is enhanced because of the continuous driving of the pulleys. Also, because the direction of the rotation of the pulleys is always the same, shifting between forward and reverse is enhanced, this being true for any type of belt.
