Patent number: 7556576Abstract: In a V-belt continuously variable transmission (CVT), a sheave drive mechanism includes a movable tube coupled to a movable sheave half of a primary sheave so as to be rotatable with respect thereto and axially movable together therewith, a fixed tube disposed internally of and coaxially with the movable tube, and a ball screw mechanism provided between the fixed tube and the movable tube. The sheave drive mechanism further includes an outer peripheral wall arranged to cover the area from a fixed end of the fixed tube to the outer periphery of the movable tube, an oil seal provided between the movable tube and the outer peripheral wall to seal an internal space for enclosing the working surface of the ball screw mechanism, and a communication path for communication between the internal space and the outside of the outer peripheral wall. The V-belt (CVT) has a smooth feed operation of the ball screw mechanism in the sheave drive mechanism and has a high durability attained by waterproofing.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2006Date of Patent: July 7, 2009Assignee: Yamaha Hatsudoki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Shigehiro Mochizuki, Kazuhiko Izumi

Patent number: 7361108Abstract: A continuously variable transmission with two conical disk pairs on the input side and two conical disk pairs on the output-side that are connected with each another by two parallel endless torque-transmitting members in a drive mechanism. In one form of the transmission an asymmetrical cone angle on the conical disks enables the installation space to be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2004Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: LuK Lamellen und Kupplungsbau Beteillgungs KGInventors: Wolfgang Haas, Oswald Friedmann

Patent number: 7004860Abstract: A belt type infinite variable-speed drive using a ball-screw mechanism is compact and noise-free. A nut of the ball-screw mechanism is fixed to a casing and a threaded shaft is rotatably coupled to a movable pulley member through a ball bearing so that ball circulating portions on the nut will not rotate while the movable pulley member is movable axially. Also, the ball circulating portions, which are low in load bearing capacity, are oriented in such a direction that a load hardly acts on the ball-screw mechanism. This makes it possible to compactly and rationally design a belt type infinite variable-speed drive and to suppress noise due to vibration of balls in the ball circulating portions.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2002Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: NTN CorporationInventors: Isamu Yoshida, Kiyotake Shibata, Masahiro Nobutomo, Morihisa Yoshioka

Patent number: 6723014Abstract: A transmission mechanism of continuously variable transmission in a vehicle comprises a primary pulley and a secondary pulley provided with a first cylinder chamber and a second cylinder chamber, with groove widths being changed by supply of hydraulic pressure, and a belt provided between the pulleys. A hydraulic pressure to the first cylinder chamber is controlled by CVT control unit through a shift control valve according to a driving state of the vehicle, and the second cylinder chamber is continuously supplied with a line pressure. CVT control unit includes an internal memory to retain a heavy-current system fail flag according to the failure information inputted from a motor control unit.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Jatco Transtechnology Ltd.Inventors: Yoshihide Shinso, Yoshikazu Miyagawa, Satoshi Sakakibara
