  • Publication number: 20010049314
Abstract: An element includes a body having a thin region in its substantially half lower portion and a head joined to the body by a neck. When the element is blanked out of a metal sheet, an excess amount of metal produced by pressing the substantially half lower portion of the body under a pressing load applied by a forming punch and a counter load applied by a counterpunch flows from the body into the metal sheet positioned on opposite side of the neck, and a metal flow is produced into laterally spaced ends of the neck. After the metal flows have occurred, the element is fully blanked out of the metal sheet by the forming punch. In the element, the head has relatively thick laterally spaced ends, and the head and the body have respective thicknesses equal to or smaller than the thickness of the head. The body includes a substantially half upper portion exclusive of the thin region, and has laterally spaced side end regions positioned on opposite side of a lower region of the neck.

  • Patent number: 6270437
Abstract: By defining the contact ratio obtained by dividing the lateral width of a saddle surface of metal elements of a metal belt for a continuously variable transmission by the lateral width of a metal ring, the transmission capacity and durability of the metal belt can be enhanced. By gradually increasing the width of the metal ring in a state in which the lateral inner edges of the metal ring are in contact with the neck parts of the metal elements so as to gradually decrease the contact ratio, accompanying it the percentage change in the power transmission capacity gradually increases from the negative side and changes positive at a predetermined contact ratio.

  • Patent number: 5827144
Abstract: A drive belt is disposed to transmit power between a pair of sheaves. The sheaves each have an axially adjustable member to vary the transmission ratio between the sheaves. The drive belt has a plurality of block members retained in endless fashion by a pivotal link chain mechanism. The blocks are loaded in compression during a portion of the travel between the sheaves and the chain is loaded in tension during another portion of the travel between the sheaves. The blocks transmit power when loaded in compression and the chain transmits power when loaded in tension. The drive belt therefore transmits power during both portions of travel between the sheaves. A lubrication and cooling liquid is supplied to one sheave at a location near the contact point of the drive belt.
