With Means To Positively Lock Members In Adjusted Position Patents (Class 474/42)
  • Patent number: 10876615
Abstract: A V surface of a pulley with which a metal element comes in contact includes first grooves extending spirally from a side of a rotation axis of the pulley to an outer side in a radial direction and one side in a circumferential direction, second grooves extending spirally to the outer side in the radial direction and the other side in the circumferential direction, and rhomboid protrusions surrounded thereby. An average circumferential width of the protrusions is smaller at a position on the inner side in the radial direction than at a position on the outer side in the radial direction. Therefore, at a position on the inner side in the radial direction of the V surface in which cracks easily occur, the average circumferential width of the protrusions is lower, such that cracks occurring on the protrusions are prevented by the grooves, and further extension of cracks is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6811504
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission (“CVT”) is disclosed. The CVT includes a drive pulley adapted to connect to a crankshaft of an engine. The drive pulley has inner and outer halves with belt engagement surfaces to engage the sides of the belt. The drive pulley of the CVT also includes a slide sleeve disposed on the shaft adapted to engage an inner side of a belt. The inner and outer halves of the drive pulley are biased apart from one another by a spring. The slide sleeve engages the belt when the belt is stationary or traveling at low speeds. The driven pulley includes inner and outer halves with belt engagement surfaces. The two halves are biased into contact with one another. A connector connects the inner half to the outer half. In addition, a pneumatically-actuated driven pulley is described together with a CVT incorporating same.

Abstract: The invention features a three piece variable pitch sheave. In one embodiment, a pair of flanges are positioned on a rotatable central member. One of the flanges is secured in a fixed position, and may contact an abutment surface to locate it on the rotatable central member. The other flange is adjustably positionable on the rotatable central member, such as by engagement of complementary threads on the flange and the rotatable central member. Torque is transmitted between the first flange and the rotatable central member, such as via cooperating flat surfaces. The flanges may be made as identical elements, such as by a powdered metallurgy process.

  • Patent number: 6592478
Abstract: A variable speed transmission includes an actuator mechanism that can be remotely activated to cause engagement of a drive unit and to subsequently vary the speed of the drive unit using the same activation mechanism. The variable speed transmission can include a first pulley that has a first and second face that are movable relative to each other by activation of the actuator mechanism. When the first and second faces of the first pulley are located in a first position, a belt located on the first pulley remains motionless. The first and second faces can be moved by the actuator mechanism into a second position where the first and second plates engage the belt with enough frictional force to cause the belt to start moving about the first pulley. The first and second faces of the first pulley can also be moved between the second position and a third position such that the space between the faces becomes smaller.

  • Patent number: 6364795
Abstract: A belt tensioner for tensioning a belt for a motor vehicle comprises a pivot shaft, a pivoting structure mounted for pivotal movement on the pivot shaft, and a pulley mounted for rotation on the pivoting structure. A spring biases the pivoting structure in a direction that moves the pulley mounted on the pivoting structure into tensioning engagement with the belt. A bolt is constructed and arranged to mount the belt tensioner on the motor vehicle engine mount. The bolt is constructed and arranged to be tightened to a predetermined extent for installing the tensioner of the motor vehicle, the predetermined extent is the same extent to which the bolt is tightened during normal operation of the tensioner. A clamping structure applies a predetermined clamping force on the pivot shaft after the bolt is tightened to the predetermined extent.

  • Patent number: 5061124
Abstract: A top housing supported by a vertical post in a drilling machine is provided with a belt transmission mechanism incorporating a speed adjusting mechanism which can be operated easily and manually. The adjusting mechanism includes a knob connected to an adjusting rod which in turn is connected to a movable cone-shaped disk.
