  • Patent number: 10443665
Abstract: A belt pulley decoupler includes a belt pulley, a hub to be fixed on the shaft, and a series connection made up of a decoupler spring and a wrap-around band arranged in the drive torque flow between the belt pulley and the hub. The wrap-around band extends about direction of the axis of rotation of the belt pulley decoupler and is arranged radially between the belt pulley and the decoupler spring. Under transmission of the drive torque, both ends of the wrap-around band widen radially, with one end of the wrap-around band being braced against the inner surface of a first sleeve that is rotationally fixed in the belt pulley, and another end being braced against the inner surface of a second sleeve that is rotatable within the belt pulley.

  • Patent number: 10359084
Abstract: A decoupler is provided for rotationally driving a generator of an auxiliary-unit belt drive of an internal combustion engine, including: a pulley, a hub, and two bearing points, at which the pulley is rotatably supported on the hub, a series arrangement of a helical torsion spring and a one-way clutch, which allows the hub to overtake the pulley, and a spring plate, which is rotationally fixed in relation to the pulley or the hub, for the one spring end and a spring plate, which can be rotated in relation to the pulley and the hub, for the other spring end. The spring ends, which lie against ramp steps of the spring plates, radially expand the helical torsion spring as the driving torque is transmitted. The frictional torque, produced in one of the bearing points when the hub is overtaking, acts on the rotatable spring plate in a direction of rotation of the rotationally fixed spring plate.

  • Patent number: 9169904
Abstract: In a first aspect, the invention is directed to a multi-speed drive for controlling the speed of a load that is driven from a crankshaft of an engine. The multi-speed drive permits the speed of the load to be adjusted based on one or more parameters, such as vehicle speed, engine RPM, battery charge level (e.g. when the load is an alternator), coolant temperature (e.g. when the load is a cooling fan), engine power demand from the vehicle driver, water level in which the vehicle is driving (e.g. when the load is a cooling fan whose blades could be damaged or could cause damage to other vehicle components if they impact water during use). The speeds provided by the multi-speed drive may include two or more non-zero rotational speeds, or two or more non-zero rotational speeds and a zero speed, or one non-zero rotational speed and a zero speed.

A cylindrical clutch spring made from a wire having a square section is mounted between a pulley and a pulley hub mounted in the pulley. An end of the clutch spring is coupled to the pulley hub. A clutch surface is formed on the inner periphery of the pulley and is formed with a large-diameter recess at a position opposite to the end portion of the clutch spring including the torque transmission end. When the pulley rotates in one direction, the clutch spring expands. At this time, the end portion of the clutch spring including the torque transmission end expands in the large-diameter recess, thus relaxing sharp torque produced in the clutch. This prevents local stress concentration on the clutch spring and breakage of the clutch spring and improves the durability of the clutch.

Abstract: A decoupler for an alternator pulley in a serpentine drive system has a resilient, helical spring member that couples the alternator pulley with a hub structure through a spring retaining member. A bushing is disposed between the spring retaining member and the hub structure to facilitate sliding engagement therebetween. An annular sleeve member is disposed between the spring member and the alternator pulley to facilitate sliding engagement therebetween. The spring member is connected at one end thereof to the hub structure and connected at an opposite end thereof to the spring retaining member. The resilient spring member transmits the driven rotational movements of the alternator pulley by the serpentine belt to the hub structure such that the alternator shaft is rotated in the same direction as the alternator pulley while being capable of instantaneous relative resilient movements in opposite directions with respect to the alternator pulley during the driven rotational movement.

Abstract: A pulley has a hub fixed to a rotating shaft. An outer wheel is disposed on the outer periphery of the hub and around which a belt is suspended, and a unidirectional clutch is interposed between the hub and the outer wheel. A cam face for forming a wedged space of the unidirectional clutch is formed at the inside of the pulley, whereby the unidirectional clutch is switched between a free state and a locked state through the rotational variation of the hub which rotates integrally with the rotating shaft to reduce the transmission of the rotational variation from the hub to the outer wheel. Further, the unidirectional clutch can operate stably without suffering the effect of the rotational centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 5830094
Abstract: A transmission for reducing the pulley ratio between a drive shaft and a transmission shaft. The transmission is adapted to convert a higher speed rotary motion to a lower speed linear motion. The transmission has two pulleys rigidly mounted together on a shaft and the pulleys have a different number of teeth. A pair of belts are mounted on the drive shaft and a follower shaft, each one of the belts engages one of the transmission pulleys. One belt on the transmission shaft engages a pulley on the top of a first transmission pulley and another on the bottom of a second transmission pulley. When the drive shaft imparts motion to the belts, the belts move the transmission between the drive shaft and the follower shaft. By arresting the movement of one of the belts by a clutch/brake, the transmission can be converted into a two speed transmission. If the belts are independently driven, one each by two motors, the transmission becomes operable in an infinite number of pulley ratios.

Abstract: In a belt transmission device in which rotating inertia torque of a rotor of an alternator is avoided, by a one-way clutch, from being inversely transmitted to a crank shaft of an engine, the one-way clutch is composed so as to effectively respond to slight variation in angular velocity of the crank shaft to prevent a mis-locking, thereby preventing a slip of a transmission belt and extending a belt life. To attain this purpose, an angle of operational delay of the outer roller type one-way clutch until the one-way clutch is switched from the freed state to the locked state between a driving-side outer race and a driven-side inner race is set to be smaller than a specified angle of displacement of slight variation in angular velocity to be transmitted to the outer race in a high-rpm region of the engine.

  • Patent number: 5665018
Abstract: In a belt transmission device for preventing a slip of a belt, the belt is wound between a crank pulley of an engine and an alternator pulley on an alternator shaft connected to an alternator as an auxiliary for making belt transmission. The alternator pulley is attached to the alternator shaft through a one-way clutch for connecting the alternator pulley and the alternator shaft only at the time of increase in angular velocity of a crank shaft. A centrifugal clutch which becomes engaged by the increase in centrifugal force accompanied with rotation of the alternator shaft is arranged in parallel with the one-way clutch. When the angular velocity is small, the centrifugal clutch is disconnected but only the one-way clutch is connected. When the angular velocity becomes larger than an allowable frequency of the one-way clutch, the centrifugal clutch operates to block the function of the one-way clutch.
