The pedal-powered vehicle has a chain shiftable between the sprocket set and the free gear under control of a derailleur gear unit. When the derailleur gear unit is set in a neutral gear position, the chain is engaged with the free gear. The free gear further has a safety device, which kinetically couples the free gear with the sprocket set.
